Hi Jeff, PDF files will be able to be stored in PDM Standard, but since it does not have support for Tasks or API or other add-ins, no automated creation of PDFs would be possible.
In addition the Windows Explorer preview will not support preview of PDFs.
I haven't seen any information about the other doc types you mention (doc, jpg etc),
Hope this helps
Thanks for the info. I know it's early in the product life so I hope others will add to this thread as more info is found.
Anything on those other file types with SolidWorks PDM Standard, such as doc, jpg, STEP?
PDM Standard will support many different file types. You will be able to check-in and check-out numerous file types. However, there is no Office add-in, only SOLIDWORKS and DraftSight. The Preview Pane will only preview SOLIDWORKS files and DWG/DXF files (anything eDrawings will preview), there will not be a preview for Office, PDF or image files.
Likewise, variable mapping will only work for SOLIDWORKS files, DraftSight files and Word and Excel files. You will not be able to map variables to any other file types (images, PPT, etc.).
Are there any other file types you are concerned about?
Ok - thanks for the input. We use WPDM and have many .ai, jpg, doc, etc files stored in the vault as attachments to SW files and hope we can do similar file saving when we switch to PDM STD.
