Have you setting the port number. The default port number is 3030.

What I don't understand is why it's showing up as notconnected when clearly the computer *can* connect to theserver, because I am able to authenticate to it in the PDMWorksEnterprise Administation application on the same clientmachine.
I fixed it! Turns out Designer Designer was on the righttrack--the problem went away when I turned off WindowsFirewall.

Designer Designer was on the right track.There are multiple ports that you must look at ....
3030 controls communication between thedatabase server and archive server
1433 controls communication between SQL Serverand clients (1434 in the case of a named instance)
389 is used by LDAP
