Making a stress simulation on a pipe inside a bone?

Hi all,

Just getting into Solidworks and I've run into a problem. I'm trying to simulate stresses on a pipe-like part inside a bone. This part may fracture inside the bone, and my goal is to examine the Factor of Safety plot to determine whether or not that will happen. However, I'm having a hard time accurately simulating the behavior of this pipe while it is inside the bone. Right now, the only force acting on the part is one coming down normal to the top plane, into the top end of the pipe. What doesn't seem to work:

  • Fixing far end (end where the force is NOT being applied) and nothing else
  • Restricting any movement in all three axes of the faces of the pipe itself using Fixed Geometry, fixing far end
  • Allowing a limited amount of movement in all three axes of the faces of the pipe itself using Fixed Geometry, fixing far end

Any counsel would be appreciated; still trying to build my intuition with this software.
