I hate the lack of color in the Interface of Solidworks 2016. I need it turned back on, or I'm going back to 2015 and I'm going to ask my boss to cancel all the subscription services and just sit with an easy to see and find SW2015.
..sorry to laugh... but your name "Matt Gray"... I can't help it but laugh!
Anyhow,, I TOTALLY agree... I don't care for the pale blue/gray as well!
Yeah, Glad my parents can spell and didnt call me Matte Gray.
But, seriously though...it reminds me of a rainy day. Bluish Gray skies, pale, dismal looking. Color makes people happy. I would want my users and customers happy. Not depressed.
From what I have heard you will get use to it?
we will see
And so it begins...
This was a major controversy in Beta.
I'm sure your thread won't be the last.
Can you send me a link to that thread. Id like to read it.
I'm not sure you can. It was on the Beta section of the site. Unless you're opted-in for Beta.
Believe me, it was not popular.
The link below is one I remember about 2016 user feedback recently.
General UI Feedback
however I have come across this site that shows different "themes" for 2016.
Matthew, did that link Mike provided work for you? Just curious.
I clicked on the link but have not read it yet. The link is good and I will see if it helps.
P.S. I did know about the themes but they don't really change anything.
So, I did read the article and I see better the process of the "color" stuff. I hope they come out with colored themes in the next SP.
The color themes is available in SW2016 today. This will give you three choices for background color which will also drive text color and other secondary colors. Icon colors are not affected by the theme setting.
Use Tools-Options-System-Colors-Interface Brightness
I hope this helps,
Have to Agree, BRING BACK SW2014 INTERFACE COLOURS !!!! or at least make it an option. Not a fan at all of the new colors, maybe with time ...who knows
Installed SW 2016 today & have to say I really like the new icons & colours...sorry if that offends anyone
I think you meant to say... (3) different contrasting shaded themes?
AND, BRING BACK THE SCALE OF THE ICONS!
Can an you give me more details on this? The overall system is much more scalable than at any time in the past. You have 3 toolbar button scale sizes and it will continue to scale higher based on your system DPI scale (text scale). In addition, property managers now have multiple button image sizes.
John.. I started a thread on this (cute,.. a moderator needs to approve... whatever).. the icons need to be SMALLER.
SW2016 SP0 - I want my Icon real estate back!
2016.. has 15 FEWER FEATURES displayed.. with 2015.. we have 15 MORE features in the menu = MORE PRODUCTIVE!
I have just seen a video of 2016. It look awful, so hard to work out what the icons are. It's like going back in time to the Black & White era.
Seriously this looks terrible to navigate, why have they changes everything that we have been used to for so many years, or is it the sale guys thinking it "improves the experience". I know they are always looking for ways to improve it (rather than fix bugs) but to me this is a backwards step.
I hope I never have to use it.
What's your monitor size/resolution? Have you tinkered w/ your Control Panel > Display > Windows scale?
It appears you might be on a 21 to 24" monitor. I forgot I had this complaint when I left my 24" 1980x1020 monitor for a 27". SW and 4K aren't friends yet, but 3K 27 and 30" (2560x1440+) ips monitors do quite well (except a few minor quirks) and allows the icons can be set relatively tiny (w/ SW16.0, 3 button scale). I really switched for visual acuity, mouse target speed and eye ease, but tuning generous real estate has real advantages.
Maybe the point of this thread is that there should be more user control over the look and feel over the UI/Theme.
Theme options - not just light, med & dark, but complementary contrasting color choices and custom.
Icons - more size / scale control and color / style choices.
Seamless compatibility w/ 3K and 4K monitors.
Shouldn't be that hard to tame the Win scaling and ad icon sets.
I did not like the new UI at first, But after using it for a few days.. It's really easy on the eyes. Now I wouldn't go back. I'm sure in future releases they will add more flexibility. I like you can make it darker.
The reason I liked the colors is because I deal with assemblies more than just parts and it is easier (in my opinion) to see transparent, hidden and normal parts in the feature tree as well as folders planes and such. Also I used colored parts in my assembly so I have a bright assembly and a plain UI and the contrast is not conducive to my work. I was used to all the colors and now I find myself looking twice at a lot of icons just to make sure they are the right ones that I need to use. I realize that this is not the case for everyone. Some people like the pale look and good for you. Maybe an option to choose what year/verison of solidworks we want to look at.Not just contrast themes but maybe year themes as well.
TOTALLY agree about the UI lack of colors. They have done the same to MS OFFICE 365, and it is about as dreary a landscape as you can get. And the so-called themes are a joke; it just fiddles with the bar background at the top and does nothing to improve visibility. MS Office 365 is the same, which is probably how we got dumped on with this.
I always gave SW credit for having better visual feedback and visual differences compared to Inventor. May have to stop that now.....
