Well,... looks like the activation is set at "0" days and we are FORCED to call our VARS!?
That won't work, the message states SolidWorks is active on another computer (activation count exceeded). If Paul doesn't know which computer that is, he needs to call his VAR for help.
I'm downloading SW2016 SP 0 at the moment and would report back the results once I've it installed.
That is outrageous!
Try again to activate tomorrow.
Installed and activated SOLIDWORKS 2016 sp 0.0 yesterday with no problems.
I installed and activated 2016 this morning with no problems. This is going to take some getting used to. Now I understand those posts "Eyeballs are Creeping me out".
I downloaded and installed 2016 yesterday without issue. It activated as usual.
Richard,.. agreed, that is the most likely based on the last notice and email activation response.. but,... I only have two laptops, (the other is backup)... and we have the right to have two... it does NOT add up as a exceed.
I personally think it's because my subscription is due within this month.
PLEASE FREE US FROM VAR HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL,.... can you tell,... I think VAR'S are USELESS!?
...and the answer is.....
After looking at your notes about your SOLIDWORKS activation failing on xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx it appears that you currently have two computers activated which is the limit for a standalone license.
It's possible that something was changed on the computer xxxx-xxxx because the recent activation attempts are with a different hard drive ID.
Either a new drive, or a reinstall of Windows perhaps since Dec. 2014 ?
YEP!... a NEW SDD WAS INSTALLED ( (~Jan 2015)!... .... BUT, .. the activation is still NOT WORKING!?!?!?
btw,.. Note: All activation transactions are reviewed and monitored by SOLIDWORKS Corp. as outlined in the SOLIDWORKS End User License Agreement accessible
That is... the VAR just flips a switch.... At LEASE I KNOW WHERE MY $ IS GOING!?!?!?
You only have the right to have ONE. The other one has been taken away.
Have a look e.g. here.
Re: Release license on every shutdown automatically.
Incorrect... everyone has the right to have TWO. (Office/Home... or more importantly... a TRAVEL computer)
Downloaded & installed today without major issues. Had an issue during install regarding the Bonjour service being newer on my system than was being installed. Clicked OK to cancel installation (which I was worried about), but then got a screen with "Bonjour Install Failure" & an option to "Resume" SolidWorks install. All went OK after that & seems to be working OK.
Paul - it's a simple explanation your being censored - yikes
Paul, I wish that where true.
But If so can you please tell me how I can have one licence active in my workstation at work and one active in my laptop all the time that I use at home and out in the field, so I don´t have to transfer my license everyday.
The home license worked for years, not anymore. At least not in my case. And in addition I have asked my VAR a million times about it.
Ingvar,,, unless something has radically changed, we have always had the right for a Office and Home license (both standalones)..
The only case you bring up is over a network license.. (I don't run a office network license).. and you are trying to run that license at home.
You should have the right to install a standalone license for your home computer (or travel computer)
Hey John, so, now I know, you're a smart-arse.... good to know.
It was like that. It has radically changed.
I have a standalone license. Used to be able to activate SOLIDWORKS on both my PC´s. Not anymore and I still can´t believe it.
Please ask your VAR about it.
hmm... ok... thanks... I'll be talking with them soon.
btw,.. from reading (circ 2013)... "this restriction applies only to Asia-Pacific" (that could be a myth?)
so,.. there was a thread... but again... it confirms allowing "2" licenses.
Change in SolidWorks licensing policy you need to be aware of
The 2016 EULA (for users in the US at least) includes this clause:
"If the Software is permanently installed on the hard disk or other storage device of a computer (other than a network server), then the person using that computer may also use the Software on a portable or home computer while the original copy is not in use, provided the Software is under active subscription service (as such is described in this Agreement)."
We have 19 seats on a network license and we can have 19 home license setups. I know because we have done it.
This is basically amazing, wish there were some hard facts about it.
My VAR is in Norway and I´m in Iceland.
Now days I have to transfer my license everyday from my workstation to my laptop and vice versa. But they were permanently installed and activated on both my machines before, for years.
so,.. the answer is we can have "2" licenses.
The problem was:
YEP!... a NEW SDD WAS INSTALLED (Jan 2015)!... .... BUT, .. the activation (reset)) is still NOT WORKING!?!?!?
OK!...Deactivated and Running!!!
..so, the license is linked with the harddrive ID#.... so, in my case... I replaced my HDD with a new SSD (~Jan 2015)
I had the same thing happen to me. I had cloned my regular drive & installed an SSD drive in my main computer. I had to either have my VAR release the license or I could release the license off of my old drive. My VAR told me if I opted for them to release my license then I COULD NOT install Solidworks on the computer that I put the SSD drive in. So I hadn't reformatted my old drive yet & reinstalled that drive & released the license & then activated it OK when I put the SSD drive back in.
hmm?... your VAR should have been able to deactivate the old HDD.... there should have been no reason for you to do what you did.
I had a recent case of my home computer being attacked by a nasty virus and, ...well, the computer had to be put to sleep.
Long story short, because I never got the chance to deavtivate the license code on my home computer, I had to contact my VAR to have them deactivate the home license code and then reactivate it so I could use it again on my new home computer.
Could this be your issue?
