We use Property Tab Builder and link to a pre-populated Excel document.
We do the same thing.

Select list in property tab builder and add values there.
You can also get these values populated either from text file, excel file or access file
The advantage of excel or access file is you can get multiple propoerties populated from one single file (each column can be specified for each property)

It would be nice if you could create and save your Custom summary information on the default part template. In my case I have to add the Properties every time I create a new part or assembly
This is something I would like to do , so , starting with the basics where do I find the property tab builder
It's in the start menu>solidworks>solidworks tools. You can just type it into the search bar on the start menu also. There's plenty of good videos on youtube.
