I have Solid Works 2012. (On a retina MacBook Pro with Parallels.) I would like to write something similar value to the 'Depth' box:
But the software doesn't let me type it to there.
Thank is advance!
Can you add a value in the feature and then add the equation in Manage Equations?
I don't have any experience with SW2012 so I'm wondering more than knowing.
If memory serves they hadn't added the functionality to input equations directly into the extrude feature in Solidworks 2012, so what you're gonna need to do to enter non-numeric values is to create the feature with a blind depth or some other limit and then edit the value afterwards by selecting the feature and changing the dimension that shows up then.
if you use a construction line- set variable "depth"=75
as a guide to boss extrude to vertex
would that be a work-around
a sample file att.
hope this helps- have a good'n kelef
Just today I found the best way (so far) to use a variable for an extrude depth:
Now your extrude depth will be linked to the global variable. It is also explained by SolidWorks here.
I'm still not sure what the big difference is between using just a global variable and using the link function, but it works for now
