Has anyone had experience designing a plastic tank with ¼” and 1/8” female npt threads or fittings. I would like to be able to install and remove NPT male threaded parts into this plastic tank but I don’t really know how to design these interfaces. I see that female NPT metal inserts exists but that might require a thicker wall thickness than I’d like.
The tank will be production rotomolded and I would like to rapid prototype the tank with the same or similar features.
Guessing you may have worked it out by yourself by now, or using the other forums I see you've asked on.
I'm currently working on a similar project, a 35 Litre tank, we are using Metric inserts for mounting points and 1/2"-3/8" BSP threaded inserts for hose fittings also.
As i understand it when roto moulding with a brass insert you don't need to increase wall thickness, but you will get a localised build up (roughly the same as your overall wall thickness) around the brass fitting in the moulding process.
