I am modelling a sheet metal body with two edge flanges. Now im providing a gusset to the flanges. How do I confirm that the sheet metal body is stiffened.!!
Do you SW simulation? You could run analysis on the sheet metal part to test these parameters.
Yes I do SW simulation. But i couldnt find any significant difference in the analysis. I dont know whether im missing something out. Im trying to find out the FOS for the body before stiffening and after stiffening. Both the values are almost equal. No significant change. Can you guide me on how to proceed further to find out the stiffening behaviour.
Increasing the stiffness of a part does not necessarily decrease the stress exhibited in the part. If you increase stiffness in one portion it may transfer the load to another part. Stiffness is a measure of how the part deforms under a load. Therefore to find out if your part is stiffer then I would look at the deflections exhibited in the part. I ran a simple simulation of a part with and without stiffner and the deflections were dramatically reduced.
