Imagine a gear and a cylinder. I need to orbit a gear around a cylinder and capture the pattern it produces on cylinder's surface (a gear-mate essentially).
Is there a kind of cut-with-mate feature I could use?
Short answer: no
Gears are not my field of expertise but I believe you can use an equation driven curve.
A while back Dennis Dohogne shared his parametric gear files and there are some links you may find useful.
Does Anyone have a Parametric Bevel Gear Model to Share?
Thanks Rob.What we have tried is motion analysis and point coordinate capture, then loading the coordinates as as curve. It kind of works for the simple cases (1-2 points), but defining 10 moving points and then reconstructing the cut curve is really a nightmareish solution.
