# Can someone please explain x/y coordinates in note parameters in drawings? (SW 2014)

I'm trying to uderstand how SW is coming up with the numbers for the x/y coordinates of notes.  Documentation says this parameter is x/y coordinates of the middle of a note.  In the standard D size sheet format for example, this line has an x coordinate value of about 29.

However, SW shows the x coordinate of the word "DRAWIN", for example, to be over 58"!  What?  I would like to be able to type in values for text in my title blocks to precisely align them, but these x/y numbers don't make any sense.  Am I missing something?  Can someone explain this to me?

Mike, the first X/Y coordinates are the start point for the line, followed by the second set of X/Y coordinates which are the end point. Below them it represents the delta length in X and Y.

Your first vertical line shows a length of 1.964~ along the Y Axis and the second shows a horizontal line that is 1.691~ in length along the X Axis.

Ninja Edit: The third box represents the start point of the text, at least I believe it's supposed too ... Though the numbers shown do not seem to be valid. It appears as if they are 2x the value they should be, but honestly I don't know. Sorry ...

for some reason, the X and Y coordinates of the notes include factors for the sheet scale. And are to the "origin" of the note - left for left justified, right for right justified, etc. (not necessarily the center).

oh, and the edit sheet format mode is stuck in 1:2 scale

Sheet scale is set to 1:1.  Why is it scaling the coordinate parameters by 2?

it is some quirk of the edit sheet format mode. given how infrequently one needs to edit a sheet format, I would just live with it. but you could try contacting your VAR and/or SW directly if you really need to know why.

I am seeing the same thing.   When I edit my sheet format:

X coordinate of the line:

X coordinate of the "DRAWN" note:

When I create a point and manually type in the x coordinate of 11.4, it places it right next to the line.

When I make a copy of the "DRAWN" note and type in 11.4 for the x coordinate, it is actually sitting at the x coordinate 5.7......hrmm.

So, I opened up a blank template......and did a test by editing the sheet format of the drawing:

Then I exited the sheet format and drew on the sheet view:

When I am editing the sheet format, the note x and y coordinates are scaled by 1:2 but when I am on the sheet view, they are 1:1.

Then I did a quick search on the knowledge base:

Sounds like this is a known issue.

I am using SW 2015 SP5 by the way.

Thanks Dan.  Amazing.  The drawing portion of SW always seems to be way behind the development of the modeling part of the software.

And just in case the above listed SPR is affecting you:
