HI Gordon ,
it's already here and has been for a couple years , it's called SOLIDWORKS Visualize and I think you'll find it alleviates many of the issues you are facing with Photoview 360 and will push the realism farther as well.
If you have SOLIDWORKS Pro or Premium on subscription (which I imagine you do if you are posting about PV360) then you already have visualize stanndard and can find the free license serial on the customer portal.
I encourage you to check out the visualize forum and specifically a thread we have had going for a long time on some of the amazing results of user renders.
there are also some getting started videos on my.solidworks.com as well
Due to corporate collaboration I'm still currently running 2016, so I don't think I can yet run Visualise?
I have 2018 installed but would need to carefully isolate a pack and go of what I'm doing...I hate that, usually in the past mixing versions it always goes wrong and corrupts my live files into the new version at some point.
SOLIDWORKS Visualize is a stand-alone application and therefor it is not necessary to upgrade your SOLIDWORKS. With this said, your will be able to use Visualize 2019 without the need to install ANY SOLIDWORKS!
