I came from Solid Edge and it was very convenient to view in plane normal to a sketch when editing, then returning to previous view when finished. Can I do this and where is the setting if I can?

I think they must have re-coded that option Glenn Schroeder (I recall seeing a forum discussion on how people wanted this feature to work) but in SW 2017 this works as Gregg Crute desires so could still be an option.

That's nice. I'd like to be able to use that functionality. Unfortunately they seem to have taken it out in 2018 SP2.0.
Now it auto rotates to sketch plane on sketch creation and sketch edit. It doesn't rotate back to the previous view when you exit the sketch.
They "Improve" something and usually mess something else up!
I am using SW 2017 SP5 and I notice that if I am inside a part and create a sketch, then this option works like the OP wants.
However, if I am in an assembly creating a sketch, or editing a part in context inside an assembly, then the view goes normal to the sketch, but exiting the sketch does not bring it back to the previous view.
Welcome to the forum. The setting shown below will automatically rotate your view normal to a sketch, but it won't automatically return to the previous view.
