How do I display the full path of the folder in which a part or assembly is saved?
Does File ->Find References get you what you need?
The dialog box that it brings up shows the full path for the current document you have open as well as any referenced parts/assemblies.
Hope this helps.
You can attach a note. Use the "Link to Property" button. After selecting "Component to which the annotation is attached", select "SW-Folder Name" for the file path, and "SW-File Name" for the file name. Will that work for you?
This does work.
I don't need to display this information as a note, I just need to look it up occasionally. For instance in document properties there is Units. I thought the folder or full file name would be displayed somewhere here as well but it is not. Is there a tool bar or properties window where the folder and/or full file name is displayed?
If you need I can write up a macro that can pop up the file location and even open that path. You can set the macro to run on a keyboard short, mouse gesture or a toolbar button.
Could you write the macro, I would be very thankful? That is exactly the feature I'm looking for in Solidworks, that I could add a mouse gesture and/or keyboard shortcut to open the file path.
If you're looking to open the path of currently open/active file then use the folder icon next to it
You can access that under File menu or under Windows. You can also click R and click show in folder on desired file.
Hi Deepak, I'm looking for a way to open the containing folder of an selected file (part/sub-assembly) in a graphic area form an open assembly. A shortcut very similar to "Show in Folder" function except I would like it to be executed for an selected part in an assembly instead of opening the part/sub-assembly file and then going to Windows menu.
I have tried to record a macro for "Show in Folder" but I got nothing.
I can't also find "Show in Folder" icon nor function under the customize menu feature.
Can it be done by a macro?

Yes it can be done via macro. Did you checked the reply by Artem on your post here: "Show in Folder" - open the folder of an selected file in a graphic area?
This seems to be the easiest and most general way of determining the file location. Thanks.
If you hit "Save As", the dialog box displays the path. Also Find references if a drawing or an assembly.
If you're in an assy and want a single components path, RMB and choose properties, then there's "Model Document Path:"
Hover your mouse over the part/assembly name at the top of SOLIDWORKS and a tooltip will show the full path.
I hope this helps,
