I am trying to stiffen a long piece of sheetmetal and would like to add an emboss, but cannot find a tool in SW that will do it. What is the easiest way to add the central indentation in this part?
You could vest some time in creating a "Forming tool" like the ones avail in the design library folder.
in 2017...it can be found in C:\ProgramData\SolidWorks\SOLIDWORKS 2017
2018 SOLIDWORKS Help - Using Forming Tools with Sheet Metal
CAD Admin and Jeremy, thanks for your recommendations. I'd rather hoped that the answer was not 'forming tool', as past experiences have been so negative.
yeah, the core sheetmetal features only cover bending in one direction, and no stretching.
if you do this sort of thing a lot, it may be worthwhile to look into one of the Sheetmetal specific add-ins.
Why not use a cross break. See here.
Thanks Chris, that's a helpful suggestion.
Hi! I'm working on a similar solution to improve rigidity, but when I run simulation the deflection is the same.. the emboss I create is 1,1mm depth per 22mm diameter and 24 external diameter, to punch a CAL14 1,9mm metal sheet; it pulls embosses 3mm height from the above face.
May some one please guide me how to validate and correctly design embosses to improve rigidity and validate it.
You'll probably want to post this as a new question.
Hi Walter, Yeah It could be better, but I thought it would be ok based on your first post: "I am trying to stiffen a long piece of sheetmetal and would like to add an emboss"..... I'm trying to stiffen, you said, you know. so how you verified you really stiff it enough, which would be the point of using SW in first place: knowing your doing your mechanic part correctly or functional may say.
I think I solved the simulation issue using the faces in which the embosses are made, distributing the forces and to sum up, I'm planing to run a lab-test to see if it works similar to simulation.
I will like to share this beautiful image taken during simulations, I think maybe Dave Bear will like too!
Also Walter, yes! It can be interesting to subject to a new question. I should do it later.
