We recently found design binder and we believe this could be a usefull tool for our company. We currently using PDM for data managment. Has anyone had sucess using design binder? What are some of the pros and cons?\

Not sure if this is related, but I had an issue with Excel files. I have Excel 2003 on my computer. Excel will open XLSX files fine. I attached one in the design binder and got this when I tried to open it again:
If I save that file as XLS, then attach it to the design binder, it opens just fine. I'm using SW 2015 SP5.0 and SW2016 SP 3.0.

I am also on SW 2015 and I don't do anything that requires Excel because my Office Suite is too old (I believe SW 2015 requires Office 2010 or 2013)(been a while since I checked). We had been on Office 2003 for years and finally last year got an upgrade to 2007 and I remember that was not even up to the recommended version for SW 2015, so I don't try anything that requires it. Maybe in 2020 my company will let us update our Office products to 2010 (were always behind the times on our software ).
Dan Pihlaja Thank You I looked at that thread. Apparently, my computer doesn't qualify for the hotfix mentioned. It seemed like it should.

Thanks Dan Pihlaja - I might have to try that when I get home, I think I was trying to attach an .avi file in the Design Binder and received a similar message.

Todd,
If I'm not mistaken, there are a couple of things going on here. One appears to be, as Dan identified, a MS Office issue. The other issue is that some files aren't supported, such as Mathcad files (my VAR created SPR #949383 regarding this). I am guessing here, but I think AVI files won't work, just like Mathcad files, regardless of any fixes you try. Let me know if I'm wrong, but I don't think I am.
Matt Peneguy - I would be willing to bet that you are 100% correct, and that error message is somewhat generic.
I had never tried to put an .avi file into the design binder, and I gave it a shot this weekend (for grins, no "good reason")
SOLIDWORKS 2018 SP0.1 / Windows 10
(I finally put SP1.0 on last night, but I didn't mess around with the .avi file any further.)

There is this:
2017 SOLIDWORKS Help - Displaying the Design Binder
&
2017 SOLIDWORKS Help - Add Attachment
But that is all I can find.
I added my own feedback as well:

One down-side to using the the Design Binder is File Size. It can grow substantially.

Not as much if you just attach files to it, and not embed them into the SW file.
I saw this earlier, and thought that this would be a perfect place to share it:

the 2nd point is regarding Design Binder.
Of course....it was written almost 10 years ago. LOL
That is exactly the same dialog I get when I try to open a MathCAD document from within the binder.
I don't even know what a "Package" is. And if I choose a file within that dialog, I have no idea what happens.
