Dominic Greco Jan 18, 2018 2:25 PM (in response to Josh Hixon)Alex and Josh, thanks for replying so quickly.
I just checked and have Tangent Edges set to "Visible" and Surface Bodies set to "Display Surface Bodies"

John Stoltzfus Jan 18, 2018 2:29 PM (in response to Dominic Greco)This comes up once in a while - not sure why, but what I do is change the view to show the hidden lines and then back again, most times that will clear it up.

Re: Hardware showing up as dashed in drawing
Dominic Greco Jan 18, 2018 2:40 PM (in response to John Stoltzfus)just tried it, didn't work.
Thanks anyway.

Re: Hardware showing up as dashed in drawing
Josh Hixon Jan 18, 2018 2:35 PM (in response to Dominic Greco)have you tried to rotate the bolt slightly to see if it gives you different results? I have had odd glitches like this in the past, and deleting the view and undoing the delete has fixed random issues. Also, I see that it is a cross-section. You may be cutting right through the very edge of the bolt, and it is leaving just a few threads and faces to be seen. That's the best ideas I have got, best of luck to you!

Re: Hardware showing up as dashed in drawing
Dominic Greco Jan 18, 2018 2:41 PM (in response to Josh Hixon)I just tried rotating the bolt as well as deleting and then un-deleting the view.
For a second after the un-delete it looked like it worked. Then it went back to dashed. I'm pretty sure it's because of the extruded threads McMaster Carr used.

I always suppress those in the parts that I get from McMaster-Carr

Re: Hardware showing up as dashed in drawing
Dominic Greco Jan 18, 2018 2:47 PM (in response to Dan Pihlaja)I just tried suppressing the threads and it STILL gives me those dashed lines. I'm ready to make my own bolt and call it a day

Re: Hardware showing up as dashed in drawing
Alex Lachance Jan 18, 2018 3:25 PM (in response to Dominic Greco)Try excluding the part of the section, see if it shows up afterwards.
Edit: This might sound stupid especially since it's been a while since you asked the question but have you tried restarting your SolidWorks? I often have problem with section views after working for a while on the same session and a restarting SolidWorks fixes it usually.
If you'd like to know if it is something related to your settings, I suggest closing SolidWorks, launching SolidWorks RX and then launching SolidWorks in Safe mode.

Re: Hardware showing up as dashed in drawing
Dominic Greco Jan 18, 2018 3:30 PM (in response to Alex Lachance)Ok, I'm relatively new to SW's drawing environment. I just looked in the Section View Properties and didn't see that option
Where do I it?

Re: Hardware showing up as dashed in drawing
Dan Pihlaja Jan 18, 2018 3:33 PM (in response to Dominic Greco)Solidworks Rx is a separate program that was installed when you installed Solidworks. Check your start menu.

Dominic Greco Jan 19, 2018 8:24 AM (in response to Alex Lachance)Alex,
I just ran Solidworks RX and tried launching SW in OpenGL mode.
No change in appearance
After that I launched SW while bypassing the Tool/Options Setting.
Again, no change in appearance

Solid Air Jan 18, 2018 7:33 PM (in response to Dominic Greco)Please upload the model of the bolt you downloaded and version of SolidWorks you are using. Also check that your view is set to high quality in the property manager.

Re: Hardware showing up as dashed in drawing
Dominic Greco Jan 19, 2018 8:25 AM (in response to Solid Air)I'm looking for a way to attach a file to this reply and falling short. I can tell you that it's McMaster Carr part #90019a130
Here's a link to the web page where you can download the file in question:

Re: Hardware showing up as dashed in drawing
Josh Brady Jan 19, 2018 8:28 AM (in response to Dominic Greco)To attach files you have to click "Use advanced editor".
Pretty fricking stupid, and I'm tired of having to tell people that. Not that it's the people's fault. It's a stupid interface design.
Jim Wilkinson I don't suppose there's any way in the Jive settings to disable the crippled editor? I can think of zero downsides to making it go away in every context. Especially in your Inbox view. If you start typing a reply to something in there, the "advanced editor" link doesn't even show up. If you get done typing a response and then you want to attach a file, you have to copy what you typed and navigate out to the actual thread and paste there.
Heck, even adding the "attach" button to the crippled editor would be a good step.

John Stoltzfus Jan 19, 2018 8:32 AM (in response to Josh Brady)Josh Brady - It's actually easier then that - let Glenn Schroeder show them how -

I don't believe there is a way to do this, but Richard Doyle is the main owner of the forums, so he should confirm.
By the way, there is at least one benefit of the non-advanced editor; it does the reply right inline of the thread/inbox so you can look back and reference other replies, etc. The advanced editor is on its own page with ONLY the one post/comment you are replying to. So the advanced editor in its current incarnation is annoying because if this and when using the advanced editor, I often have to open up the full thread in another browser window to review other comments/replies when forming my response. Yes, I wish the forum interface would just have the full editor inline with all options (replacing the simple editor), but there must be some technical reason/limitation why that is not done in the forum platform.
Thanks,Jim

I seem to recall that it did at one time, but pages also took longer to load. If I'm right about that I'll take faster loading in return for not having the "Attach" link always active. Although it would be nice if the "Use advanced editor" link actually looked like a link.

Elmar Klammer Jan 20, 2018 4:14 PM (in response to Dominic Greco)Check your model...Evaluate (stringent) at assembly level and see if you get errors. Your view looks like draft mode with hidden error in assembly component
