In auto cad Mach. it is normal for it to think for a couple of seconds on really large designs but solidworks takes minuets is there a way to spend this up so its not like sitting watching a circle all day?

There are lots of ways to speed it up. Depending on your application and what you are doing.

I am guessing you can't post this part because of IP. I've got a part here with over 1000 bodies and don't see the problems you describe.
Can you go to Evaluate>Performance Evaluation and post a screenshot?
Matt, that is a superb suggestion! This is an all-too-often overlooked tool.
I am trying to discover and use more of the tools that are available, when I get a chance. I knew that tool worked for assemblies, but hadn't ever run it on a part. I just got lucky.
I am interested to see if Paul Clor can post a screenshot. I'm wondering if there is a circular reference that is causing him trouble. Though, he did say this is an automotive application. So, he could have some very complicated surfaces causing trouble, too.
In 2015 you have to click on Evaluate then AssemblyXpert. Scroll down until you see what is in the picture and click on the glasses.
Take a screenshot of the resultant window and post that. It should look something like the one below.

Thank Dan Pihlaja for the info, I just added some visuals.
Yes.
