Assign material to the part from a material database.
At my company we use custom properties to store raw material information:
Property Name Description MaterialID ERP ID/Part Number MaterialDescription Description MaterialQty Quantity / Length MaterialUomID Unit of Measure ID MaterialManufacturer Manufacturer Name (Optional) MaterialManufacturerPartNumber Manufacturer Part Number (Optional)
We use our own Property Manager form to enter the information. This is the 'Material' section. It is part of our Add-In, but something similar could be done with a macro.
We have another tool for exporting the BOM to the ERP system that reads the information for the part and material.
SOLIDWORKS Bill of Materials columns reference custom properties. You can link the material information of a part to a custom property. If you'd like to do that, add a custom property to the part (to be more precisely, add it in the referenced configuration of the component). The value of the custom property will be something like "sw-material@NameOfthePart.Extension" with the quotes. You'd need to set the material information of the part inside the part. If you have a lot of parts to process, check this tool (video does exactly what you want) that will help you to add the custom property to your files.
