I have a sheet metal box. If I want to show the door open at different angle, do I add configuration in the part file or assembly file?
add config to assembly file with the mate controlling the door angle changing...
Got it. Thank you.
Take a look at this thread
Fragile angle mates
For simple situations, you may be able to get away with angle mates. But be aware that they can "flip" on you unexpectedly. If you run into this situation, you can insert a driving sketch with say a circle and some construction lines. Then you can mate your door to these lines in different configurations. Then hide the sketch in the assembly.
If you want to avoid angle mates you could have a single Distance mate from the edge of the door to the cabinet, then have different values for the dimension in each configuration.
That may work, but do you ever have any problems with the distance mate flipping, also? I seem to remember running into this with distance mates before. If you go over 180 degrees, SWX has to make a choice. So, if I set a distance mate that gives me 10 degrees (partially open) then I also set a distance mate that gives me 320 degrees, how does SWX handle when I switch between those two configurations? I could very well see SWX choosing 10 degrees past closed when switching from 320 degrees config to the 10 degree config, even if these locations are defined using distance mates. Please clarify if I'm wrong on this, because I believe I have run into this before.
However, if you use points or lines on sketches, you should never run into this problem.
I'm not at the office right now, or I'd test it out. If I get time tomorrow, I may see if I can simulate this behavior...And I could be completely wrong on this.
You brought up some very good points. I agree that sketching a line and dimensioning it, mating the door to one of it's endpoints, and having the dimension vary between configurations would probably be a more stable method.
I indeed use this method. Mate it from the edge of the door to the cabinet. I have only 2 configuration. Door open @180 and door close.
Thank you for the tip. I have never to a sketch mate before. This might also fix my problem. From time to time I have problem with missing entity when I replace component.
