2018 pr1 doesn't seem to include solidworks cam? The beta version had it but pr1 doesn't seem too.
Don't know about pr1, I haven't downloaded it but my VAR called me yesterday to see if I'd be trying it so it'll be in SP0!
Same here, was actually trying to see whether it was an addin/toolbar/separately licensed product/ serial keys etc. We are keen to see if there is a way of tracking usage in any way (i.e. an activated license key) but I too cannot find it in PR1
Since I had the beta version, I'm guessing I have the cam files. When I went to pr1 on the server computer and mine it no longer can find a license for just the cam add-in.
Same here. I just downloaded PR1 to see in what way SW2018 can replace our current CAM-system, but cannot find a plug-inn or something else to activate SolidWorksCAM. Disappointed....
HI Everyone, this is simply an activation issue. As the activation servers are in a transitional point at present (and still on 2017) so won't show what your 2018 entitlements are. For Beta, separate serial keys were issued for CAM but I don't think this is the case for PR1 unless you submit a request on the Beta forums. It definitely will ship and appear with SP0 in SW Standard.
Adam is correct. When SOLIDWORKS transitions from beta to pre-release, the software transitions to the commercial activation servers. Since SOLIDWORKS CAM is a new product starting with 2018, it is not active until the servers are updated with 2018. It is my understanding from development that the activation updates will happen over two weekends in October. The first updates will happen the weekend of October 14th for all existing SOLIDWORKS assets. The following weekend of October 21st, all new products will be added. The second weekend of activation will include the SOLIDWORKS CAM Standard asset. Keep in mind there are two versions of SOLIDWORKS CAM. Standard and Professional. SolidWorks CAM Standard will be available to users on active subscription of SOLIDWORKS standard, professional, and premium. SOLIDWORKS CAM Professional will be a separate add-in to any SOLIDWORKS CAD seat. For beta, all users have been using SOLIDWORKS CAM Professional. After the live streaming launch event from Waltham, MA tomorrow September 26th, I will be able to share the differences in packaging.
Product Manager - SOLIDWORKS CAM
Michael what's the difference between the standard and the professional?
For beta, all users have been using SOLIDWORKS CAM Professional. After the live streaming launch event from Waltham, MA tomorrow September 26th, I will be able to share the differences in packaging.
CAM Standard is milling for parts only with TBM. CAM Professional contains volumill, assembly machining, turning, 3+2 (4&5 axis indexing) and configurations.
Any idea on price?
OH snap. Good stuff!
I'm keeping this guy Michael Buchli's name handy.
Thanks for the explanation, just to clarify, will CAM be available for the Pre-Release version, or only when SW2018 is a full release ?
SW CAM will be available in 2018 SP 0. The commercial activation servers will need to be updated which will take place around the weekend of the 21st of October. If a customer is purchasing CAM professional, they can purchase it right away and use it. The new products that are purchased as an item will be immediately available. SOLIDWORKS CAM Standard that is part of subscription service, will be available after the servers are updated.
If you are a VAR and need a license for 2018 launch preparation, please contact me privately, to get the serial number to use for internal use.
SW 2018 SP0.1 downloaded and installed, but gives me a licence error loading SW Cam, I though it was 'free' to premium subscribers.
Brad, see Michael's post above- this weekend the license servers will be updated to allow SolidWorks CAM to attach to your serial key. so try it on Monday and use Help > Activate License and you should find CAM appears. It is actually for subscribed SolidWorks customers period, SolidWorks Standard through to Premium.
Thanks Adam, I did note the weekend of the 21st, but also that it would come with SP0, was hoping the fact SP0.1 was available it would be there.
Will try again on Monday.
SP0.1 is the first official release this year. SP0 had a couple last minute issues to resolve so it was bumped in our SP database to 0.1 for the first release. The software is part of 0.1 but the activation server determines what you are entitled to use.
Have a great weekend everyone!
Thanks guys, as you said re-activated today and SW Cam is there.

More specifically, you'll have to re-activate the SOLIDWORKS product. SOLIDWORKS CAM should show in the activated products list when you re-activate SOLIDWORKS.
I have re-activated my SolidWorks product & as you said, SolidWorks CAM appeared in the list of active licenses. It also appears in my list of SolidWorks products with a green tick next to it, but when I try to update my SolidWorks installation through Control Panel I'm still being asked for a serial number as the screenshot below. Have also rebooted & still get the same message.
You only need to check the box for SW CAM if you have a Professional license. If you are running CAM Standard, you will uncheck the box and then make sure it is set to install on the "product Selection" page. This page is only to put in a serial number for SW CAM Professional.
Ah OK!! Thanks for that. I will install first thing in the morning as it's 4:52pm here & I notice it's 1.5GB for SolidWorks CAM alone.
Right, the sneaky little i next to the CAM group of serial numbers communicates this
Because CAM "Standard" depends on the SOLIDWORKS serial number, you only need to enter that. If you're on subscription, CAM will be automatically selected for install:
I'm still having this same problem, can anyone confirm if they did or did not activate CAM for subscribers yet??
Installed & running fine this morning
They did activate it over the weekend.
I re-activated my license and modified my installation this morning.
A little information in case it will help others.
So, as I wrote above, I modified my installation this morning.
I didn't get a chance to actually start SWX for a while after I installed.
I also have MasterCam for Solidworks which starts whenever I start Solidworks.
Solidworks Cam does not seem to want to run while MasterCam for Solidworks is active.
I re-booted after I modified the installation.
Solidworks Cam is listed under Add-Ins. I checked the Active Add-ins and the Start Up check boxes.
Closed SWX, re-started in says Loading Solidworks Cam but there's no sign of it when the loading is done.
After re-starting I look in the Add-Ins dialog and both check boxes that I checked before re-starting are now unchecked. (Tried this several times to be sure)
If I clear the MCfSW check boxes and check the Solidworks Cam check boxes Solidworks Cam does load. ( I haven't tried doing anything with it yet.)
In order to get MCfSW back I have to clear the Solidworks Cam check boxes, check the MCfSW check boxes and re-start Solidworks.
BTW, I was hoping for a tutorial on Solidworks Cam but I can't find one under Tutorials.
I wasn't clear on this right away. So just in case it doesn't click; select the CAM product to install and if you still get a license not found after you launch you will need to go to the Help pull down and Active Licenses... (also/again), ie re-activate. You will then see the CAM in the list a be able to complete. I am good to go.Thanks everybody for all the info!
Yep, did that.
See my edited post.
Tutorials for SOLIDWORKS CAM are under Help_SOLIDWORKS CAM_Tutorials.
I did a CAM overview getting started class last night; 20171026 Solidworks CAM Overview - YouTube Hope this helps. I encourage getting familiar with the TECH DB early but avoid drastic changes until you are comfortable with the logic.
Ahh, Thank You!
