I am student and I got assignment that I struggle with.
I have this part (see attachment) and it is rather hard for me to create two part mold for plastic molding.
I only need basic two part mold that copies the shape of the part, but because of its complicated geometry I can´t find a way to do it.
Can anybody help me ?

Did you close all the holes and then created surfaces that extend the part by some dimension and after that just cut the extruded block with those surfaces?
I have created surfaces that I wanted to use as cut tools to separate the mold into two halves but somehow I cant make it work
I tried to do it in assembly by creating new part - didnt work.
Then I tried to do it in assembly by importing cube that I wanted to split - didnt work.
At last I tried to just extrude the cube within the part itself and cut it that way, but it also didnt work
What am I doing wrong ?
Here I adjusted the surfaces to be better but still cant do it
Even with mold tools there are still errors while I try to do it
Use the "Parting Line" command to split the part into cavity surfaces and core surfaces. Trim up your parting line surfaces so they are not overlapping with part surfaces.
Have you even bothered to search for & watch videos on YouTube that show how to do this?
Have you done the tutorial in Solidworks?
A short tutorial, funny. Here is a quick rundown, the first couple of steps I positioned it how I wanted and put the part on the origin where I wanted. Split lines to cut across surfaces where I wanted the parting line to go. Then use parting line and shut off surface to get the two surface halves. After that close up the holes and extend the parting line surfaces. Once both halves are knitted up and hole free use the tooling split tool to make them solid again. Your comment above shows that you kind of have the right idea.
I did the split while in a part, no assembly needed. It can be done that way but it uses different tools.
What are you doing wrong? Not following the feature tree in my screenshot. Parting line and shutoff surfaces BEFORE you start making all the surfaces. It will give you the green light when you have it complete.
You will then have 2 subfolders in the surfaces folder in the feature tree, Core and Cavity.
I still struggle with selecting the correct parting line. Mine is very complicated and parting surfaces then create a mess. I used shut-off surface to close the hole in the middle of the part. And now I am trying to figure out what the best parting line would be.
Also the parting surfaces tend to go in whichever direction they like and dont follow some nice pattern like I would need.
Help please, I need to hand this assingment soon.
EDIT: I just noticed that the shut-off surface is mess as well, as it creates undercut for the core part
EDIT 2: Fixed the shut-off surcafe of the center hole
This is not a simple part and I think for your assignment if you just get to something like I got, you should get a good grade.
Typically I get the parting line first then the shutoff surfaces.
Sometimes it does create shutoffs that are a mess, just toggle between tangent, contact or none to get something close and yes, none is a viable option.
Now, hide the original part and get busy plugging those holes! Your assignment is due soon!
So that complicated parting line is okay ?
So should I create the parting line, create parting surfaces, then hide the component and close all the holes?

If you hide the component, there´s basically just one surface, what holes should i fill? It´s infinite space...

When I use Tooling Split, the part hides, and only middle shut-off surface remains. How do I make it stay ?
if you did the split right there should be 2 folders in the surfaces folder, work with these surfaces to fill the holes.

Start from this and fill in the holes. Don't stop until it looks more like my picture above. And stay away from that ruled surface crap. And notice parting line THEN Shut off surfaces!
I am currently at this stage, tooling split still doesnt work. Do I need to add more surfaces somewhere ?

Ask me on monday. It took me around 4 hours to complete so I am fairly certain you are not there yet. If tooling split doesn't work, you're not there yet.
I cant pass this stage. I am pretty sure all holes are filled, the shutoff surface log is green and says that it is possible to create cavity and core, but I still cant make it

When you created the "Parting Line1" feature, you failed to fully define the entire parting line...the interior split between core & cavity is NOT defined. As a result, the system cannot split your part into cavity surface bodies and core surface bodies. Without those, you will not be able to have the software create the cavity & core.
This is what you have...incomplete...
You are not done with this part of it until that "Message" box area turns green.
You need to define that interior split, then the message area will turn green like this...
And when the message box is green, when you finish the "Parting Line1" feature you will see a new folder appear in your tree...the "Surface Bodies" folder. And inside that folder will be 2 more folders, the "Cavity Surfaces Bodies" folder and the "Core Surface Bodies" folder.

Doug Seibel the green box doesn't have to happen in the Parting Line Function. It can happen when creating the Shut Off Surfaces if SW sees that it is complete. In most cases doing it this way can curb redundancy.
Another thing is that you have overlapping surfaces. You created shut-off surfaces that overlap across part surfaces.

If you hide the solid body and show all the surface bodies, NO SURFACE BODIES SHOULD BE OVERLAPPING ANY OTHER SURFACE BODIES.
