Could someone please take care of it?
I've reported 8 different poster id's so far...
I do wonder what happened to the plan of having multiple moderators or the idea of only letting people post without the need of approval once they hit a certain amount of points or level?
It's been going on now for over an hour and so far I haven't seen any evidence of anyone actual taking care of them.
Being a US based corporation, I rather suspect SW's in-house mods are all still asleep, and will be for at least the next couple hours.
Maybe they should appoint mods at some of the global VARs, for just such an occasion?
ISTR from the last attack, that the URLs they post generally lead to sites offering electrical appliance repair
Please report abuse the post, this would at least do some help.
As I stated above, I have been reporting them.
I suspect, like you, that indeed they haven't appointed anyone with full mod. privileges to combat spam that isn't located in the US, or if they did, they only did so for a few. Which in itself is ludicrous.
Deepak, that's all what we can do, reporting abuse as soon as we see it and wail until someone state side finally arrives at the office to see that there's a problem and has been so for a few hours. All they, or any mod, should need would be the unique user names for the first time they posted the spam message.
Here's an idea. Allow us to report spammers on their profile page, instead of flagging individual posts.
Ian Worrall you just took the words out of my mouth.
So it begs the question how much control they actual have over this forum?
Out of curiosity I took a look at Jive
Jive-n & Jive-x: Spam prevention service and 3r... | Jive Community
To qoute :
2. SPAM PREVENTION SERVICE: Customers can choose to turn on the spam micro-service which is off by default and available starting 2015.3 and 8.0.2. Customers would need to work with support to turn on the service. There is no additional cost to the customer for turning on the Spam Prevention Service
This would enclude :
.....the Spam Prevention service has the ability to: 1. Moderate all non-english posts if the community is set to English. 2. Moderate all posts by user accounts < 24 hours old. 3. Moderate all posts that are repetitive.
.....the Spam Prevention service has the ability to:
1. Moderate all non-english posts if the community is set to English.
2. Moderate all posts by user accounts < 24 hours old.
3. Moderate all posts that are repetitive.
In other words, if I apprehend this correctly and if they are working with the most recent version of Jive, they would be able without any additional costs to set it up so that fully automatically most Spam attacks would be prevented to ever even be actually posted.
Thank you to the powers that be that have stopped the spam.
Are you referring to this?...
I was wondering this too. The last time this happened that was the plan to restrict users below a certain number of points from posting....although I'm not sure how you get points if you can't post. I checked one of the profiles & they joined today & were posting straight away. The first 9 to 10 pages were all spam when I checked at 7:30am (UK) this morning.
It certainly needs looking into but I guess it's not as straight forward as we think but at least some evidence that SolidWorks is trying would be nice.
This time the attack started at 5.47am, I sure hope it doesn't take the powers that be until past 1pm again, like it did yesterday, to respond.
Awesome!!! Currently 28 pages of it in 3 hours
isn't reporting 10 pages of spam a "Badge"
under the new system? - kelef
EDIT: I've done 2(pages that is)
A bloody gold medal I should hope for 10 pages
I just reported a few posts to highlight it to the SW's team.
Hopefully it will be sorted by Richard Doyle when he wakes up in a few hours
Today, I've taken to adding "When will you activate Jive's FREE moderation facility?" to all my spam reports.
If they can get it free as Peter suggests, we should push SW into doing it!
yeah, they seem to hold to
a couple of hours behind europe-
and yes considering that Jive states that it's available for
SPAM PREVENTION SERVICE: Customers can choose to turn on the spam micro-service which is off by default and available starting 2015.3
and as far as I can tell SW is using:
I find myself wondering why something so essential these days is "off by default"?
Richard needs to go on third shift
Today it's getting close on exceeding 7 hours of constant spam. Anywhere from 2 to 5 messages per minute.
I couldn't even be bothered to read up on older questions/anwsers becomes of the wall of spam.
I'm not sure how most feel but to stop this just don't allow non-subscribers to post. Or at least during Richard's sleep time...
I was trying to be helpful, now I'm being Moderated, can't win.
It begins again!
How the ... does a spammer get to level 4?
By posting a few thousand times in a couple of days maybe
That was my first idea too but then I noticed that he is a member since today !
So either he posted lots of spam, got the points for it, the spam got removed but he didn't get banned or he knows of a way to fake his amount of points so as to bypass any spam prevention by anyone having to few points.
My money is on the latter.
I may be being naive, but I don't see what anyone has to gain by doing all this, other than to annoy lots of people.
Surely that can't be the motivation behind it?
maybe we should send a list of these IP addresses to South Korea's Security Service, suggesting they might be working for "The Young Leader"?
wham bam spam - thank you mam
We should be able to report the messenger not the message. If someone is reported they shouldn't be able to post till they're cleared by the moderators.
Richard needs to work more hours...
This sucks, but oh well
I tried to report the message as spam and it said the message could not be found. So I returned to the forum to find they are all gone. Dam that worked great!
I'm still trying to figure out what would make someone think that this forum would be the hot place to post spam for Asian casinos??? Is business over there that bad or did a disgruntled SW user over there decide to get even?
I was level 4 before the Forum change, now I'm level 3 again and getting my every post moderated. Yet somehow a spammer manages to get to level 4? Not fair.
They're after Deepak really quick - spammers are gonna pass Deepak by mid July ........
Paul - you're on the same list.......
I think it won't take them that long
I do wonder if this is a case of giving them enough rope to hang them with or if there is just no way to ban spammers outright, else why are those profiles still active ?
Shame on you Deepak, there's a list that you're not at the top of ....you must be slacking.
See Deepaks hat, here's what'll happen if someone messes with him....
He'll pull that hat down in the front and both hands will be moving to the hip really quick. it'll be the SW tombstone special...
I've been sleeping most of the time....
It looks like Deepak Gupta is back on top again...
But wait the list starts at 4 now.... We need a ban stick.
LOL!.. that is funny!
..imagine,.. Deepak, with that hat... handing out quest badges to fight off the Korean Spammer...
Operation - KIMCHI
Give me a badge then I can be Deepak's deputy - I wanna see it first hand, I'll be his backup.......................... way way back
time to tool-up for DG v the spammers
I donate my ZF1-PWS
go get'm dude kelef
PS I always knew DG earned points even in his sleep
Thanks for that, would be really helpful. I'll set it on auto mode while I'm sleeping
But what is the red button for.....? LOL
That is for auto mode
The only thing you're missing is a hypodermic needle with some special opps relaxation medication.
That was one of my favorite parts of the movie. " Any true killer would ask what the little red button is for". Boom! Never played the game though.
So now is every post waiting for moderation?
Not a great solution.
Wonder how long that will take.
I think all we need to do to get the spam attacks to stop is threaten to ban all Korean based IP addresses from World of Warcraft and League of Legends. The entire region will be in an uproar, the cultural backlash will cause any thought of spam to cease.
There's only one this time......only joined today & is already on Level 5, same as me ...WTF!!
I see that any "NEW" measures are working well
Thankfully search still works and posted in "SolidWorks Explorer". BTW Awesome room/thread choice...nobody there....LOL
Should be a better way to admin....like first 10 are monitored/value added. then full access after that. Like all the other Forums i've been on...a buffer level.
Or in other words they figured out that faking level 4 wasn't doing it so they fake level 5 .
Seems to be the case of taking advantage of a security failure in the Jive system.
Considering the next to no yield it gives them, whatever they're pushing we ain't buying, it means that it ends up being an act of vandalism.
Decades ago I held a 'power' position on a few MUD's and even way back then we could easily track down anyone who logged in by IP. Which meant that we could temporarily block or even ban a user that was violating any of the rules and regulations. Even if they used a randomized IP address we could stop them if they were stupid enough to use their regular login. Or we just temporarily blocked an entire country if need be, if the offence was grievous enough (sexual harassing female players).
Fast forward 20 years and it seems that it's impossible to block an IP or Login to a forum which has supposedly built in safety's and security checks.
Trust & Security - Jive Software
is a nice read but seems to be more pie in the sky then actual fact.
"Jive maintains accurate records of discovered vulnerabilities and their remediations. Critical vulnerabilities are fixed within one business week,...."
I guess constant being hit by spam is not deemed critical?
By now the spammer has reached level 6 so if the powers that be can't find another way soon my posts will also be moderated.
Or in other words less then 30 people will be able to post on this forum without going through moderation.
The result is an arms race. Putting in moderation needed for certain levels, although that doesn't only stop the spam but also hits all regular users that fall within those level groups. Until the spammer figures out how to fake a higher level, in which case only the regular users have the disadvantage of having their posts moderated. This can't be maintained because else SW ends up having everyone including Deepak Gupta's post needing moderation while the spammers (at level 18) can spam without moderation.
Thought it was done(for today)...35 minutes later...they are back at it with a new username....Awesome
Sorry make that 4 new usernames....
As per usual, they start with one account. If that one gets through and keeps going for long enough they add a second, and a third and .....
The first one was the proof of concept as well as to see how quickly it gets smacked down. Since both were satisfactory to their taste... more follows.
Step 1: Refresh Forum for new questions.
Step 2: Find a question you are able help with.
Step 3: Answer the question.
Step 4: Your answer enters into the moderation queue.
Step 5: Someone else answers the same question.
Step 6: Yell at computer screen about annoying Korean Spammers.
Ya missed step 7 - this is for all of us
Step 7: Suck it up
HERE WE GO AGAIN, twiddle de dom
They have nothing better to do?
Apparently the measures that the moderators are taking are working. I haven't seen any successful spam posts in over a week, if only I didn't have to wait 20-30 minutes for my questions/posts to get through a moderator.
Looks like they are still spamming but Captain Richard Doyle is on the front with his Bazooka to give them a hard time.
So all this makes it worse for newbies to the forum seeking advice like me, as the level goes up, the longer we'll be on probation. Being moderated now has it's pitfalls, although I understand why it is being done!
Surely there's a better way........
oh no... Kim Jong-un... strikes again... go get them....
Is there an option to report a person instead of reporting their posts?
Also, new spammer have gained enormous number of points just in a few minutes by creating multiple posts. Might get to the level of "trusted user" with 5000 points in an hour
Not at the moment but I think Richard is already looking into it.
They're HEEEEEEEEERE! </poltergeist>
I was thinking I might create a extensive forum that covers all aspects of spam............
Hopefully there'll be people there that can answer my silly questions about SolidWorks!!!!!
Maybe ill deploy my agent to hunt them jeje
Man are they ever persistent.
33 pages in 3 & a half hours & the posters are at level 5.........this is ridiculous!!!!
Boom im just level 4 and i earn that for how many months wierd
Are you trying to level up by taking a leaf out of the spammers book with multiple posts
Edit: Awww!! the duplicate post is gone now & I look like a twit
Dunno. Looks like a Korean username to me!
no i join this forum to learn and and asked, the only thing i care about the level is that i use it as a measure on how i improve since i join the furom
i did try to match some of the letters to the Korean letter yah some are thesame
No offense was intended....when I first replied to your post there was two posts exactly the same from you & just reminded me of the spam posts we had earlier, thought you was trying to get your own back
This forum is a great place to learn & there are a lot of amazing designers on it that are willing to help everyone. It's a shame that it's become so frustrating to use the forum the past few months at times.
......& it begins YET again, this is beyond ridiculous now.
Our days in Europe & the East are half to three quarters over before Richard is awake, out of bed & able to sort this.......just crazy
Agreed. Dassault is a FRENCH company, so why are they not putting some French moderators on this problem?
Is it possible to get >1000 points in a week without spam generator?
Why not create a simple filter to waste off people like this one and ban them forever?
EDIT: Looks like it was nipped in the bud this time.
how is it that they think we shall go to their given site when probaly most of us can't even read what they are saying?
..geez.. happening right now at 10pm PST...
I thought the proverbial
had hit the fan on night-shift
when I saw my inbox was full
07:10 in the morning here
sorry but bouy am I relieved
those naughty spammers
Someone pissed in his kimchi cheerios!?
sounds like a job I could finally,
competently, excel at-
given the chance
Yep, they are at it again and on top of it the 'users' in question are anywhere from level 4 to even level 0.
This means that the barrier for posting unsupervised must have been removed
There always making a tunnel
The attack started 4.50AM local time. This means that by now there's 54 pages worth of postings of spam and that for the last 3½ hours this forum has once again become close to unusuable.
The're still spamming the living hell out of the forum. When is there going to be an admin/mod online to take down those spammers?
When they get out of bed K. V.
3 to 4 minutes per page, so go figure there's a lot of pages full of spam.......... 100's maybe
It's a special Christmas present or maybe an attempt to disrupt some political organization(s). Maybe the Russians did it.
My guess - Kim Jong Un
Looks like a proper hack attempt. Even Google Translate gives a "403 - Forbidden" error.
(Disclaimer: I'm currently using a Linux machine for... reasons.)
Guy's we can all disrupt the forum point system even more, just "Like" every post
The CIA released a report detailing how the Russian's are now spamming CAD/CAM message board disguised as Asian in origin.
The report went on to say that the highest levels at the Kremlin are directing this activity. Putin deigned being responsible.
Leaders in Washington stated that the denial by Putin only further proves his involvement...
Rick Becker - just be careful on your story - the moderators don't like to google for 2 hours looking for a fabricated story, you could get banned....
I had reported many of those SPAM but thy overtook me from all over.
Thanks for your efforts, but by the time you report one page there were three more
Precisely)))) And ISIL)))) Sometimes can before to tell something it is necessary to think.
They were more in number attacking from every side making it hard to control OR take over them.
I saw a bunch of them last night and reported 5 or 6 (from different senders) as Spam.
When we report them as spam, does it stop any more posts from that sender until a moderator looks at them or does it just block that one post?
I would have reported a bunch more but I didn't know if it would make a difference.
Reporting one of their posts does not stop them from continuing to post.
Last nights attack was especially egregious, with 204 different accounts using the API to post. Since we had not experienced an attack in several weeks, I lowered the point threshold a couple of weeks ago so people could post without moderation.
We'll have to go back to strict moderation for a while - SPAM Update
Thanks for your efforts - looked tough.....
I knew it would be a challenge when I saw them at midnight last night and they were coming in at a few each minute.
I think it intrigues of competitors. Always it is necessary to look for a coma it on a hand. I think them not especially pleasantly to learn that in SW it is possible to do qualitatively so many works))).
