Re: Detail Views w/Leader Edit Leader Length
Rick Becker Dec 9, 2016 1:49 PM (in response to Stephen Reed)Stephen,
I must be missing something. Just grab the text and move it. The arrow moves and changes length automatically.
Or, grab the handle on the arrow and move it's location.

Re: Detail Views w/Leader Edit Leader Length
Stephen Reed Dec 12, 2016 9:08 AM (in response to Rick Becker)Rick, perhaps your SolidWorks behaves differently than mine (SW2015) but grabbing and dragging the letter only rotates around the center. I am able to make it longer but there's a minimum, as in the screen grab I show, that you can't go past. So, are you saying that you can make the leader as short as you want because that is what I would like to do. However, the length shown in my screen grab is the shortest it will go. Rotating it helps some but even then sometimes gets in the way of other dimensions.
Thanks for your reply,
Steve

Re: Detail Views w/Leader Edit Leader Length
Rick Becker Dec 12, 2016 9:45 AM (in response to Stephen Reed)Stephen,
My bad. I didn't get that you were talking about the Leader of a Detail View (as I don't use them).
Try this...
Style: No Leader
Delete the letter in the Label box.
After you place the detail, add a note with a leader...
PITA as is usual for SW, however, you can get the exact look you need by jumping thru hoops.

Re: Detail Views w/Leader Edit Leader Length
Stephen Reed Dec 12, 2016 12:42 PM (in response to Rick Becker)Rick,
Yes that's a good work around. Often, we have to do that in SolidWorks and other Cad programs as well. In my opinion SolidWorks is more user friendly than the Cad I'm acquainted with (AutoCad, Creo), but that's just my opinion.
Thanks for your help,
Steve

Re: Detail Views w/Leader Edit Leader Length
Glenn Schroeder Dec 9, 2016 1:53 PM (in response to Stephen Reed)Stephen,
I've seen the same thing. The leader seems to maintain a minimum length from the center of the profile. So in your case you should be able to drag it closer to a corner of your profile to shorten it, or drag it longer, but I don't think there's any way to shorten it past a certain point without changing where the leader intersects the profile.

Re: Detail Views w/Leader Edit Leader Length
Stephen Reed Dec 12, 2016 9:03 AM (in response to Glenn Schroeder)Glenn, you are correct. I can grab the letter and make it longer but past the minimum, it will only rotate. I was hoping there was a way to change that but have about decided it isn't changeable. It's not a big issue but our company likes everything on letter size drawings so sometime they can get pretty busy. When that happens, space is at a premium.
Thanks for your input,
Steve

All 8-1/2" x 11" here too, so I understand what you're saying.

Re: Detail Views w/Leader Edit Leader Length
Steven Barry Dec 12, 2016 1:44 PM (in response to Stephen Reed)Stephen, the closest I can come up with is editing the "leader length" under the options menu (Document Properties -> Drafting Standard -> Annotations -> Notes)
Unfortunately it only seems to affect the elbow portion, and the leader style doesn't seem to be able to change. I did notice however that the main leader length seems to be proportional to the font size, so if you choose a smaller font size for your label, you may be able to squeeze it a bit closer to your view.

Stephen Reed Dec 15, 2016 1:57 PM (in response to Steven Barry)Steven,
Thanks for the help. That is something I hadn't thought about (it being proportional to the font). Unfortunately, company standards won't allow a different font size. Still, it's always good to learn something new; you never know when it may come in handy.
Thanks,
Steve

Glenn Schroeder Dec 15, 2016 2:09 PM (in response to Stephen Reed)Stephen,
By the way, if you use the style "with Leader" often, feel free to vote for this Idea when voting is open in a few days: Have a Setting in Document Properties for Detail View Display Style (and yes, this is a shameless plug for one of my Ideas).

Re: Detail Views w/Leader Edit Leader Length
Rick McDonald Dec 15, 2016 4:29 PM (in response to Glenn Schroeder)Voting Starts Tomorrow - 16th
And Glenn, you will have my vote!

Mahis Zadorian May 17, 2018 9:42 AM (in response to Stephen Reed)Hi Stephen
Go to setting option / Document properties / Annotations, then reduce the leader length on that page.
