Can anyone recommend a relatively low cost ($500-$800) PC that would adequately run Solidworks 2016. Preferably something with 12 GB ram. So many choices out there that it gets daunting.
You might be able to buy some from ebay.

Brand new workstation is out of your budget.
What do you think a new workstation for SW 2016 would start at?
I really am looking for something for home use. Something to practice SolidWorks and maybe do the occasional side job. I do not need the machine with the most performance.
I was looking at the below PC. What would keep this unit from adequately running SW 2016?

Dont buy a laptop. It is bad for SW. So much crashes, lags etc. If you work home PC is better, moreover laptop has small display - is not comfortable. I have one laptop at home another at work both make me angry, however their characteristics better than my table PC. But PC work faster! Portable devices a good for travelling. Use teamviewer for this.

During the year, 2006 I purchased my first Dell Laptop, last week that laptop crashed, blue screen of death. I received ten years of use on my last Dell Precision with no issues. This will be my second laptop purchased from Dell and all hardware specifications meet SolidWorks System Requirements. I am hoping to get ten years use from this machine as well.

I collect home PC myself specially for working with SW at 180$. And it work great! Even better than my laptop "specially for SW" for 2000$ at work. Find cheap CPU but see GHZ, the higher is better.
I even no video card, cpu calculate for itself. For playing 2016 games at high resolution may be it needed, but for me enough. I play Mafia II and ORI and BLIND FOREST and find no lags.
Better spend money for Display. 24 and higher I find started at 120$.
