I design lots of springs and have just started using SW. Is there an in-program application to create springs?
..don't know of any but they are so easy to make in this modeler...
otherwise.. go to McMaster Carr.... they are in Solidworks format.
Check/try this macro: API: Create Spring Macro Feature (VBA)
This macro is awesome
springs can be very simple to create or difficult. the easiest way to create a spring is to draw a line on one of your main planes... then on the same plane, create another sketch. this sketch will have the profile of what the spring will be (round or square). do a swept body.. use your sketch profile of the spring and select the path will be the straight line. you can tie your line endpoints to objects in the assembly so that this length is changing also.
under options of the sweep, select follow path, specify twist value, revolutions, and then give a number to how many revolutions you want your spring to have.
this is a spring that you can save as a baseline part and whenever you need a new spring, open it and do a save as...and simply attach the endpoints to new objects.
hope this helps
We have a spring template for springs w/ closed & ground ends which works very similar to the McMaster-Carr model.
