It's my understanding that metadata in EPDM and files is bidirectional. Can metadata between an EPDM Data Card and AutoCAD or Solidworks be pushed into the CAD and have it so updating the CAD will NOT go back into EPDM?
Hi Robert, I don't believe so. The mapping is bidrectional, so updating the file will update EPDM, and updating EPDM will update the file. You could turn off the mapping if you did not want to read properties from the file, or write back.
Again, thanks for the feedback. I appreciate it. By "turn off the mapping", do you mean delete the relationship of the attribute between the block name and the variable? Is there any other way to disable the mapping?
Hello Robert, you are most welcome.
Yes exactly, delete the relationship between the block name and the variable.
There is always bi-directional property mapping for "supported" file formats. So if linked custom property is modified in file upon next check in the changes would be shown in data card. There are ways to restrict editing on card by making field Read only but not other way .
