I am using 2015 and all the file were create and saved with 2015. Yet, in the open file window some of the files are shown as general icons and not a little picture of the part.
What service pack are you using, I have seen the issue and it was cured by installing SP3
if you are looking to upgrade to SP4 be aware of the following All Tooltips are missing, 2015 SP04
Sorry, for the delay I have had some problems. But I have 2015 x64 SP3.0.
If the files that do not show a thumbnail are opened rebuilt and saved does the thumbnail show when next going to the open file dialog?
Sometimes. All the files I am troubled with I files I created from the beginning. The really troubling thing is the problem changes between the drawings icons then make an edit and no icon or the other way around. I have noticed that drawing files don't seem to have the problem, just parts and assemblies.
Same thing in SP 4.0. It's the recently saved parts and assembly files that show the icon instead of the thumbnail. If I re-boot the computer they usually show up as thumbnails again.
Check your file association in windows for parts and assemblies is to the SolidWorks launcher and not SolidWorks.
Sorry, for my absents but work and life have been really bad lately.
I had a launcher shortcut on my desktop but I deleted it because I could not find a reason to use it. If you don't mind what is the reason?
I want to associate parts and assemblies like you suggest but, when I try to find the launcher program on my hard drive I can't find it. Is it called "Solidworks Explorer" by any chance?
