Re: Restoring the broken link of "Inserting a Part into Another Part" feature
Ingvar Magnusson Apr 21, 2015 8:07 AM (in response to Can Onel)If you go to
File > Find References
what does it say ? Does it include the part you are referring to ?

Re: Restoring the broken link of "Inserting a Part into Another Part" feature
Can Onel Apr 21, 2015 5:56 PM (in response to Ingvar Magnusson)well it looks like this:
Name
CURRENT_FILE_NAME
> REFERENCED_FILE_NAME
and also the REFERENCED_FILE_NAME shows up only when "include broken refences" option is ticked. also i can't do anything here

Re: Restoring the broken link of "Inserting a Part into Another Part" feature
Wojciech Paterski Apr 22, 2015 2:52 AM (in response to Can Onel)if the link is not broken, I think the best way is to open part with inserted part in it. and the also open part that is inserted, go back to part that has inserted component and do rebuild or ctrl+q, this should make link live and part to update.

Re: Restoring the broken link of "Inserting a Part into Another Part" feature
Can Onel Apr 22, 2015 3:14 AM (in response to Wojciech Paterski)i've also did that. that works for some other parts that include the same REFERENCED_FILE part within them, but not for this particular part.
here are screenshots of reference dialog boxes and parts. navigate with next and previous
i've also tried "pack and go" option expecting it would include the referenced file but it didn't. the link is obviously somehow broken. i'm sending the part anyways. Dropbox - ADAPTER_AXIS_2-1.SLDPRT

Re: Restoring the broken link of "Inserting a Part into Another Part" feature
Ingvar Magnusson Apr 22, 2015 4:51 AM (in response to Can Onel)The external reference is clearly broken. Broken reference is permanently gone.
I would just rollback the tree in the part you uploaded and insert the other part again and updated the rest with the new referenced body. It´s really not that time consuming , since the steps are only few. It should not take you more then minutes.
You did not upload the broken referenced part, if you would have done that I would just have done it for your.

Re: Restoring the broken link of "Inserting a Part into Another Part" feature
Can Onel Apr 22, 2015 5:38 AM (in response to Ingvar Magnusson)i was keeping this solution as a last resort, but appearently there is no other one. thanks for your kindness, i can do that instead of troubling you
my intention was to learn if there is any way to restore. now i wonder why could broken link have happened in the first place? i was extremely cautious to not let that happen yet after a few solidworks restarts and editings the link has got broken. what may be the cause? it's pretty annoying to repeat the insert part feature over and over again...
