I still can't get use to this new layout, takes me forever to do anything
I still can't get use to this new layout, takes me forever to do anything
I find the forum feels more like a social network page then an engineering resource
I find if less efficient to go on quickly, look at what the recent discussions are & try to help people
Therefore, I am on a lot less helping put where I can
Previous log-in screen brought me right to the discussion page where I think most of the action takes place
Maybe it's just me, an old dog use to the way things use to be, but I find it difficult to go on & do what I need to do
I find the page to move much slower when trying to dig into the forums
The (3) large buttons on the top of the screen, take way too much room
Recent content list should expand & show all information - views, reads ....
Way to much dead space on the page
The new point system is very questionable
I don't relally like the new inbox interface - much more confusing, overcomplicated - a simple list of on going discussions would be preferred
If I was a newbie & never seen the old format, I would probably be happy, or if I took the time to get used to the new way of doing things maybe I would get the feeling back
My flat out honest opion: I use to love the forums, now I cringe when I am using them & that is what led to my posting
James,
I'm not real fond of it either. As far as the 3 large buttons and other issues with the Home page, I've pretty much quit using it. Click on the Content button at top to take you to the Discussions page. I have it set as one of my Home pages when I start up the internet.
And as Deepak said, for specific issues I'd suggest posting them on the "About the Forums" page.
James,
Use this link to access the forum. It will get you directly to the list of Discussions.

Deepak - You use the forums more then anyone (Which I can appreciate)
What's your take? Do you like the new look?
Did they get any feedback from any of the top users before implementation?
Did they see you for your opinion on what to improve?
If I was going to a complete overhaul, I would have went to a key group & let them test the new forum before implementation
James, to be true I didn't liked it initially, see my comments here: https://forum.solidworks.com/polls/1106#comment-9161
I'm still not able to understand the real idea behind the complete makeover of the forums. Many people have shared their opinions/issues/suggestions and they've (Forum Admin Team) started to implement them. SOLIDWORKS Forums change list
The forum still need to be improved on lot of good stuff and other issues which you can find in About the Forums
Over the period of time, I'm now used to it and have moved further in doing what I loved to be doing in the old forums .
Did they get any feedback from any of the top users before implementation?
I'm not sure about it i.e. if any feedback was taken from the members.

They did ask for the feedback after implementation. The feedback is still appreciated and About the Forums was created for that purpose only.
Not to be argumentative, but just to provide an opposing viewpoint I actually much prefer the new layout. Just as the new one makes you want to avoid the forum, the old one made me avoid it. Now that things look a bit less clunky I'm much more likely to use this thing!
Nothing but love, bro. Just a different opinion.
I too hate it. I still can't figure out how to start a new discussion. And, the main benefit of the forums is to search previous posts, right? Well, you would think the search functionality would be front and center. Nope, now the 'Ask a question' box is front and center. Search is buried somewhere off to the right. Why?
I'm not on here much.... But there have been times when I have been. I've always found this forum software to be difficult to use and awkward. And just discovered that it has something in common with the Zumba instructor forum - which is also awkward and clunky to use. They both are by Jive Software !
An example of forum software that I find works well:

And on the other hand there are some that are worse. I belong to one forum (not SW related) where you wouldn't believe the hoops you have to jump through to post a picture. And that's not it's only issue.

I agree, and have created an Idea to that effect ( Make Bookmarks more accessible) if you'd like to vote for it when voting starts back up next month.
Add specific issue and reasons so they can be addressed.
Specific use cases work well. Don't lump them together or make them too broad.
We are always looking into how to simplify and improve the experience. Lots of good ideas have been suggested and we are implementing what is possible as soon as we can.
Along with many here, I too do NOT like this forum format.
I belong to many car and bicycle forums, and have no problem with those, but this one is just awkward.
And I can't pinpoint any one thing. It's just cumbersome to use, therefore I don't visit often like I do on other forums.
The biggest issue is the difference in appearance and functionality if you get here thru a link in a email notification, thru solidworks, or thru mysolidworks.
Also, if you're logged in one place, and click on a link to a discussion, you often have to login again, then you exit out of that discussion and have to find it again. I don't usually waste my time, therefore don't reply to many posts.

David,
I usually follow the Forum from the "All Content" page: https://forum.solidworks.com/content?filterID=all~objecttype~objecttype%5Bthread%5D . I click Log in near the top right. After logging I've recently been taken to the Home page instead of back to "All Content", but it's easy enough to get back to it. Logging in this way lasts all day; or at least it does for me.
