I long for the days when the old PC Magazine "Winmarks" performance standard was common. You had a commonly quoted number to compare computers when you were shopping. Nowdays, you have no such standard. The average shopper is walking into a store and must generally shop blindly, unless they are an expert in computer adminstration.
Just now, I counted the number of processor and video chips for desktops and laptops. There are precisely one zillion.
The SolidWorks "Share your score" page is certainly a wonderful additon to the web site.
But, it misses an imporant aspect... the price. We typically must balance the performance against the price. Of course, price is a moving target, and so I can understand why the Solidworks web site omits this. But, if I go to a vendor, like Dell, I cannot find the SolidWorks performance rating.
Is there any place I can go to compare performance with price?
