the solidworks screens fails when I select 3D Sketch
see the solidworks Rx video
I spoke to one of our graphics guys and he refered me to SPR 717784. This is a known problem with the "nView" applet from NVIDIA. The problem has been seen in nView versions 140.54 and 140.75. We have confirmed that nView version 140.62 did resolve the issue and we are opening a new case with NVIDIA concerning the fact that it seems to have reappeared in the .75 version.
The nView version on your machine can be located by starting the NVIDIA nView Desktop Manager from the control panel, then click on "About" to bring up the version info.
Other than changing the driver to the 140.62 version, one workaround is to uninstall nView or to simply disable it. Let us know if this does not resolve the problem.
Have you contacted your SolidWorks Reseller?
Do you update video card drivers when you installed SW2014?
first thing I did was contact my reseller and told me to use solidworks Rx to send the error.
yes, I update all my hardware when I install SW2014 and Win 8.1
I don't think it is my video card since this only happens when I select 3D sketch. with solidworks 2013 did not have this problem
does not appear win 8 or win 8.1 in the video card resting web.
I agree with Anne. It looks like a video card/driver problem.
Have you run the SolidWorks Rx tool to make sure that your system is upto spec?
I do now

Your first image shows the driver for Win7. The SW driver page does not list a suitble driver for Win8.1.
The Rx image shows the driver is not suitable for the K3000M & Win8.1 and that you are using some other driver.
You may have to experiment with different drivers (maybe even Beta versions) from the nVidia site.
my only question.
Why this only happens when I select 3d sketch?
with not one other tool this error happens.
I think if video incompatibility would happen at all times.
Not necesssarily. Incorrect drivers can cause many varied problems, or a single problem, or even prevent SolidWorks from opening.
Take a look at:
Sorry going off on a tanget here but i have the same problem.
Dell M6800 32Gb ram, NVIDIA Quadro K4100M, Current driver is 312.32. I have disabled nview and i can use the 3DSketch feature now. Thanks for the info but i think the testing tank at solidworks is failing a little on graphics card testing. I went to the effort of clean uninstall what the Dell guys did to get the driver on what SolidWorks suggest. We do rely alot on SolidWorks testing to be spot on.
Thanks for the pointer leading to the NVIDIA nView desktop manager causing the Solidworks frame to go transparent when selecting a 3D sketch. I have disabled the nView desktop manager and 3D sketch works without causing the Solidworks frame to go 50% transparent.
It is the graphics card driver. I just had the same problem when dell updated my drivers on my M6600. I reinstalled the driver from solidworks for my quadro 3000M and problem went away.
Mine only went translucent when I tried to create a BOM in a drawing.
my original problem is back with the SP2.0
I can reppair the original problem with the last version of the nvidia driver. but now wen the SP2.0 fo solidworks 2014 the problem is back
