I know I have been away for a while, but has there been any changes to the forum that allows users to contact who ever
is the administrator of these forums if one has a direct question? Or is posting it here in a thread the only method.
I guess the fact that I got no responses for this thread speaks to there is no forum admin.
Ok, I had a question as to why there is no voting options for the ideas forum.
Voting closed a couple weeks ago for the SolidWorks World ideas section.
Thanks Anna. That is what I figured. I don't understand why the idea voting is centered around SWW, and not open year around.
Welcome back, Scott. The idea voting is opened year round via the Enhancement Request process.
In this forum we voted only for the top 10 ideas to be presented at SWW 2014. Is like the NHL going on the whole season and at one point people vote for the all stars. That happens once a year, right?
Nice analogy using the NHL. Yes you are right when it comes to that process, but I think we are talking about apples and oranges. What I can tell you is after being away from this forum for a while and exposed to another forum and come back (kind of like walking out of the forest and seeing a much different perspective), sometimes it opens your eyes to other ways that might be better and make more sense. Like the title of this thread. Why is there not a forum administrator that is easily accessible to ask questions and one that has a constant input in these forums or provides an avenue for us users to have more of a voice in what goes on in these forums
Next, The top 10 ideas I remember from my last SWW experience, and if I remember correctly it was based on the top vote catchers. Those top ideas are based on a very short period of time if I remember correctly. Just a couple of months if that. Why do ideas have to be only for a short period of time. Users are using the software year around and developed during that same period. This is not a season where players can have up and down years. The software is the software and is a constant work in process. We don't just use it for 6 months out of the year and retool for another season.
I just think that with something that is used year around should allow users to have the same option and opportunity to suggest year around.
I hope this makes sense.
Welcom back to the forums, Scott.
There have been other threads requesting the ER process be more open to voting, & the ideas to be year round. Basically combining the two into a continual process.

Thank you. Good to be communing with you guys again.
I read through that thread you started and I would say based on what I read that you and I are on a very similar page.
I also noticed that thread is closed to response. That is crazy!!! I wanted to add that another factor is timing of an idea.
If an idea has more votes may speak to it getting into the garage first. Doesn't mean it is the most important or wanted, just means it had more exposure time. One that comes in last may be of more importance then the first. Just because it came in late for the dance does not mean it is of any less value. Thus more of a reason to have this open year around.
Again like I stated in my orginal posting and title, I wish these forums had an admin figure from SW that would be a go to guy for us users of these forums to count on and go to if there are issues with posters or content. Or maybe questions like the ideas.
I guess this is what I am used to in the other forum I am a part of.
Scott, the voting system has been changed in the past 2 years. The ideas where submitted in a first phase, without any voting hapening. Once all of them were in, the voting started in a second phase.
So, all of them got in the grage at the same time.
Alin, nice to see that they are at least looking at this system. Hopefully with threads like this one and Kelvins it will prompt more changes.
How far in advance does the first phase start before the second one and how long before all of it starts before SWW?
Welcome back Scott.

Thanks Glenn, for both the welcome and the link. That pretty much spells it out. Looks like I just missed it (the voting that is).
