I have imported the iges file to solidworks 2013. One of the holes is outlined by an arc as shown above.

How can I measure the largest distance of this arc?

Since it is not a perfect circle, I can't measure the radius/ diameter instead.

Can you post the model? I believe I have a way to find out the largest overall size of any 2D shape you can think of.

Unfortunatly, the "Maximim Distance" in Solidworks measuring tool does not work. But the "Minimum Distance" does. Create 2 planes parallel to the straight edges and to a distance that is outside the elipse. Measure from each plane to the arc using "minimum distance".

Once you get your (2) numbers you can do the math to get your dimension. (distance between planes-1st measurement-2nd measurement=your dimension)

This is assuming the shape is symetrical about the (2) straight edges.

You can draw a circle using the perimeter circle option and by picking the 3 points you'll get the circle. Then you can measure the size as required.
