Re: EPDM Messaging system notifications, does not work with Microsoft Office 365
Jeff Sweeney Nov 12, 2013 10:03 AM (in response to Lawrence Kiefer)I have never played with 365, but I wonder if you are running into the same issues as if you were running gmail? Have you looked at Lou Gallo's solution? http://solidworksheard.com/blog/2010/11/19/enterprise-pdm-notification-via-gmail.html

Re: EPDM Messaging system notifications, does not work with Microsoft Office 365
Lawrence Kiefer Nov 12, 2013 10:07 AM (in response to Jeff Sweeney)Yes, it is the same issue as with Gmail, and I have worked with my solidworks reseller to try to implement the gmail fix with office 365 with no success. I have also been working with Microsoft support on this as well with no success. I was told that Solidworks EPDM simply does not support this new office platform, I would think that Solidworks would rais this to defcom 3 as notifications are an essential part of EPDM.

Lawrence Kiefer Nov 12, 2013 10:42 AM (in response to Lawrence Kiefer)Issue solved.
Although Solidworks does not support this, Microsoft Office368 allows you to set up a message system relay in the admin tool via the web portal. Once This was set up, we were able to get notifications via HTTP once again.

Re: EPDM Messaging system notifications, does not work with Microsoft Office 365
Lawrence Kiefer Jan 10, 2014 8:08 AM (in response to Jeff Nelson)Jeff,
If you go through your reseller, they will inevitably end up telling you that EPDM does not support using office365 which is true. They may try to give you a work around, which is essentially a cheat and a pain to set up as you have to go through 3rd party software.
What I recommend you do, is exactly what I did. Once your ready to set this up for messaging with office365, give Microsoft support for offic365 a call (And believe it or not, they are very responsive and helpful, they even made a follow up call to check on it a week later).
They will either step you through the process, or as in my case, they will do a screen share and get it working for you. There were several settings in office 365 and on the server side that they had to change to make this work. Its been flawless ever since.
I would giveyou the step by step myself to do this, but its rather extensive.
P.S. I've been using office 365 for about 2 years now, worth the pain of setting it up. In my opinion its a great package.

Jeff - You can go to the knowledge base and search for solution S-064088. S-064088: How is a SMTP message system setup in Enterprise PDM using Microsoft® Office 365 as a mail server? Best Regards, Joy

Lawrence Kiefer Jan 10, 2014 8:28 AM (in response to Joy Garon)Joy,
Thanks for tagging in on this. You and I worked on this just a while back to get me up and running, but it was just long enough ago now that my memory is a bit cloudy lol. Anyhow, the route we ended up taking with Microsoft, did not require using the message relay system as stated in the Knowlebase (Below). That's why I mentioned calling Microsoft support. They actually had the answer to linking office365 with epdm right away, leading me to believe they had these issues in the past and came up with an internal solution. Mt settings are shown below, but I think there were more items in offcice365 admin tool that they changed as well.
Microsoft Office 365 is cloud based solution for email server. Enterprise PDM does not support hosted/offsite/outsourced mail servers; however you can setup an email relay. There are many applications allowing this. We have tested with an application name E-mailRelay, please see solution S-061136 - 'How is an SMTP email relay proxy for Enterprise PDM SMTP notifications set up?' for details. -

Re: EPDM Messaging system notifications, does not work with Microsoft Office 365
Lawrence Kiefer Jan 13, 2014 8:38 AM (in response to Lawrence Kiefer)O.K. So I dug into my archive on how I got the messaging system to work with Microsoft office 365. It was in fact done by setting up a relay, however I did not have to use an external software or e-mail for the relay. Microsoft support pointed out that Office 365 has a build in message relaying system thats prety simple to get going. See the image below. This was done in the admin tool. The next step would be to change your settings in the EPDM message system as I show in my image above in my last post.
@ Joy, I am not sure if you were still involved up to this point with helping me get this going. If you were, and recall any steps that I may be leaving out, please chime in and let us know.
