I have some older part files that were created not utilizing an internal part template. Is there a way to import the settings contained in our standard part file template into these older part files?
depends what version you are running they added what they call a "drafting standard" in 2011 (i think) that would let you save the document settings to an external file, and then you can load it into an exiting file.
I am running SolidWorks Premium 2011 x64 Edition, and tried loading our standard drafting standard to the part, but did not get the result I was expecting. The fields that we use to populate the part definition in file properties did not change.
the custom properties are not part of the document options, and therefore not part of the drafting standard.
search the forum on copying custom properties.
Check here for a video on how to copy paste properties: https://forum.solidworks.com/message/307451#307451
Thanks Deepak!!!! The ctrl-c/ctrl-v works great.
Alan, as another alternative, you can set up custom property pages, which allow you to edit the properties of the currently open or selected component right from the task pane of solidworks. When you apply changes to a component, properties not already in the file are added with default values.
This capture shows the custom property pane and the properties being edited on the selected component.
Open the new file and export the drafting standard (save as external file) found under Tools > Options > Document Properties > Drafting Standard. Now in the older files import this saved Drafting Standard. And for the custom properties properties (File > Properties), you can simply copy paste information from one file to another.
