Back in 2010 there were rumors of a native version.
Is there anything in the works?
Is it ever going to happen?
I would like to have a viewer for Mac. Just to open and view .igs and .stp files. (maybe .dwg) I have eDrawings for Mac but that will only open files exported out of SoildWorks specifically for eDrawings. I am a sales guy so I'm not doing any design work but I have to interface with engineers who email me 3D models in .stp and .igs. (IGES) and be able to see what the part is. I don't need a full seat of a design package. I beleive many people in manufacturing are coming over to Mac from Windows and I know my college daughter and all of her friends are growing up with the Mac OS. I think a company like SoildWorks could sell many copies of a viewer like this and I know I would pay $200 - $300 for it.
If you have access to a license, you could run SW in Parallels or VMWare. If you're just simply viewing then the performance hit may be acceptable and that allows you to stay in th OSX environment. Also, there are a number of lower end CAD packages for the Mac in that price range that can import/export standard formats.
SolidWorks Mechanical Conceptual will probably run on just about anything. I don't think it's a native Windows application.

I don't see SolidWorks Mechanical Conceptual listed as a "Product" on their web site. Where would I find that?
It's not at the consumer release stage yet. Beta testing will start soon (May), with full release expected later (October) this year.
If we have SW and pay subscription is there going to be a further cost to get SW mechanical conceptual?
(then I return the thread subject back to the MAC, sorry)
Yes there will be additional costs. Exactly what those costs will be hasn't been announced yet.
Maybe they'll get to it when they finish the viewer for Android.
I think it's laughable that they have a viewer for iPad before they'd have a version that runs on MAC.
eDrawings for the Mac has been available for quite a while.
David - eDrawings will not open .stp or .igs files.
And you say, "Also, there are a number of lower end CAD packages for the Mac in that price range that can import/export standard formats." I already have TurboCad for Mac. What others are there?
TurboCAD and ViaCAD are a couple that came to mind. Also FreeCAD sounds like an interesting open source alternative, especially for simply veiwing iges/stp. I don't claim to have used any of them as I use SW in Bootcamp on my Mac, but they're options.
My comment on eDrawings was simply refering to Nathans implication that it was available for the iPad and not Mac. I do hope they add .iges and .stp support.
A viewer has been around for a while for the MAC. Since the ipad took center stage it may not be so noticable, but you can find out more here:

Larry - eDrawings viewer for Mac (and Windows also) will NOT open .stp or .igs. It will only open files exported out of SolidWorks in the eDrawings format which is .EPRT
It will also open Solidworks files, .dwgs, ProE files and a few other file types that most people don't use.
That is correct and there have been a few people requesting to use it for iges and step file viewing.
