Unable to install SolidWorks 2012 SP02 (student edition)

    Onno Van Teijens

Yesterday I've tried to install SW 2012 SP02 on my computer. I had SW 2011 and during installation I was given the option to upgrade 2011 to 2012. I chose this option, but it gave an error.

Today I retried it, but got the same error: "Internal error: The Windows Installer for this product component did not run as expected: 1903."

It's a general error I guess, since I've seen several of them with different solutions. I couldn't find an e-mailadress, so that's why I'm asking in here before trying suggested solutions like editing the registry

I've added both logs. The one from today is the 2nd log.

I hope someone can tell me what to do.

      Thanks in advance!

Uninstall all the old SolidWorks on your system, student version isn't upgradable.

after unistall reinstqall as new version SW2012.

            Lenny is correct..

            me also faced same issue.

After uninstallation of 2011 and reinstallation of 2012 problem solved.

            try it once

Yes, it worked for me too. I just forgot to give feedback in here.

The problem was mostly that it offered the possibility to upgrade. Uninstalling everything and reinstall as new version worked like a charm.

You don't need to uninstall but simply rename these keys:

On machines with 32-bit Operation System

On machines with 64-bit Operation System

This is as per Solution Id: S-057711 from Solidworks Knowledge Base

I am having a problem installing the 2012 on a clean system Solid Works Student edition

I have tried to remove the old 2011 version but the new one will still not load. It keeps stopping at 30-35%

I have the error reports if it is the last items on the last files its 157error and 1603 at the end.

Is this windows Ref: ? .I also got a  screen telling me to contact support not easy with your site down

I have tried removing all the SolidWorks files and registers still manually by hand as well as automatic same thing happens. As instructed on your help pages  web site still did not work .

The old copy of solid works 2011 did install without any problems. The licence had expired so have uninstalled it  SolidWorks 2011 and removed the registry’s entries listed  .

It dose however install eDrawings but not SolidWorks some times. Is it a SolidWorks or a windows problem?

If you re name the keys what to you re name them

Look forward to hearing from some one  soon. Let me know if you require any addition information

This issue appears to be related to VSTA component.

This error may happen if the user does not have proper permissions on registry keys while installing SolidWorks, or if registry keys are corrupt.  Try the following steps to resolve this issue:

                            1. Login as an administrator and turn off all anti-virus applications.
                            2. Uninstall the existing VSTA installation from Start > Control Panel > Program and Features > (Microsoft visual studio tools for applications) 3. Rename following registry keys: (run registry editor from Start > Run > type "regedit" (without quotes) and select OK. This will launch registry editor).  Please ensure not to modify any other registry key or folder since it can lead to malfunctioning of other applications.

                            HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\VSTAHostConfig

                            x86 (32 bit system)

Rename the folders to VSTAHOST_OLD and VSTAHostConfig_OLD

                              3. Run SolidWorks installation using Installation Manager agai

it worked for me  now happy >
