Re: Problem with installing license file, upgrade from 2010 to 2011
Anna Wood Aug 26, 2011 8:44 AM (in response to Les Stirk)Did you install new license server software when you installed SW2011? Did you get a new license file for SW2011? You will also need to activate it in the 2011 SNL server software.
Cheers,
Anna

Re: Problem with installing license file, upgrade from 2010 to 2011
Les Stirk Aug 26, 2011 10:09 AM (in response to Anna Wood)- Yes. The screen shots you can see in the pdf file are from the newly installed license manager console. On trying to activate via the Solidworks web site, I get as far as seeing the products I have licenses for, I select the 2011-12 package, click on next then I get the screen that says “Product Licensing, Message”: and a Next button. Clicking on the next button just returns the same screen.

Josh koester Aug 26, 2011 10:12 AM (in response to Les Stirk)I am having the same issue. Support told me that solidworks 2010 and 2011 don't use license files anymore.

Les Stirk Aug 26, 2011 10:16 AM (in response to Josh koester)Interesting Josh. Have you managed to run this on a client machine without it asking for the license file?

Re: Problem with installing license file, upgrade from 2010 to 2011
Deepak Gupta Aug 26, 2011 10:21 AM (in response to Les Stirk)Les, I found this in the Knowledge base:
Solution Id: S-00334
Question: What causes the error, “Could not obtain a license for SolidWorks. License server does not support this version of this feature (-25,147,0)”?
Answer: The error, “Could not obtain a license for SolidWorks. License server does not support this version of this feature. (-25,147,0)” implies that the client machine is communicating with the license server and that there is a license for SolidWorks or the Add-in with the file. The message shows that the license file is not for the version of SolidWorks installed on the client machine.
Download the latest version of the license file and install the latest version of the SolidWorks SolidNetWork License manager server on the server machine. Also check that the customer is licensed to run the version of SolidWorks being used.
If problems persist have these files ready for your Support representative:
{SolidNetWork License Manager Installation directory}\lmgrd.log
{SolidNetWork License Manager Installation directory}\Licenses\Sldwks_D.lic
{SolidNetWork License Manager Installation directory}\Licenses\Sldwks_D.opt – If present
So make sure you used the correct license file.

Re: Problem with installing license file, upgrade from 2010 to 2011
Les Stirk Aug 26, 2011 10:26 AM (in response to Deepak Gupta)Deepak. I went through the registration process. I have provided the screen shots in the pdf file attached to my original post. At no point does this process state that it is e-mailing me a license file (it says it will do in the Admin Install instructions, but it hasn't done so). How then, can I make sure that I get the correct license file. It sent it when I upgraded from 2009 to 2010 last year. This years upgrade to 2011 has not done that.

Re: Problem with installing license file, upgrade from 2010 to 2011
Deepak Gupta Aug 26, 2011 11:17 AM (in response to Les Stirk)Talk to the people/team from whom you got the license?
Are you on subscription?

Re: Problem with installing license file, upgrade from 2010 to 2011
Les Stirk Aug 30, 2011 5:00 AM (in response to Deepak Gupta)We have a 3 year subscription (2009-10; 2010-11 & 2011-12) and unfortunately I have no idea who the re-seller was as this was purchased before my time here. Last years upgrade went fine. I was e-mailed the license text file and installed everything OK. I went through the same procedure this year and I haven't received the text file. I used last years, but this is obviously not correct.

Re: Problem with installing license file, upgrade from 2010 to 2011
Jeff Holliday Aug 30, 2011 8:11 AM (in response to Les Stirk)You really do need to find out who the company paid the subscription fee to. Otherwise you are missing a BIG part of the subscription benefits - help in solving problems.
I must say, I don't think I ever heard of other companies that paid 3 years of a subscription at the same time. Most of us complain about paying it every year.

Re: Problem with installing license file, upgrade from 2010 to 2011
Rui Raposo Oct 14, 2011 11:09 AM (in response to Les Stirk)For network licenses, you just need to go to the SNL Manager > Server Administration tab > click Modify > and then activate/reactivate the licence again.
For standalone licenses, you should transfer the license and then activate SW again. If that is not possible follow the solution provided before by Mr Gupta.
I hope that info resolve your issue.

Re: Problem with installing license file, upgrade from 2010 to 2011
Q. S Jul 5, 2012 11:18 AM (in response to Les Stirk)I got this error messeage before, you have to start the solidworks service on the server and the client.
Step1. Right-Click my computer and click manage.
Step2. Click on services
Step3. Scroll down to SolidWorks Licensing Services
Step4. Right-Click and and click on start.
Now again you have to do this on the server and the client.
