this has just shown up on windows update. I am loath to let it install until i have heard what every one else is doing..............? I am still on sw2010 - Is this win7sp safe or is it going to cause problems?
Windows 7 SP1 is working well on several machines here with SW2011 SP2.
thanks Anna, anyone out there still on sw2010?
I am. I'd begun installing SP1 on my newly-reformatted drive (fresh Windows 7 x64 install), and upon restart, I couldn't get back into my desktop. So I originally figured the SP hosed Windows. Not quite. It coincided with a hard drive crash (1.5-year old WD VelociRaptor 300 GB drive)! Took me a while to really figure that one out. The good thing is that the drive is under warranty until 2014, and its replacement should arrive tomorrow. So I'll reinstall Windows and try it again soon, posting here if I've got bad results (which I don't expect--unless SP1 can turn hard drives into bricks).
In New Zealand we would say "Bugger"
hope it is just the hard drive
tested and running fine, now updateing the other 25 of the crew here
Make sure you read the official SolidWorks release: https://forum.solidworks.com/community/administration/hardware_and_os/blog/2011/02/28/solidworks-and-windows-7-sp1
Note that just because something isn't "supported" doesn't mean it won't work.
I ran for the last 2 months with Win7 SP1 RC x64 and SW2010 SP5 with no noticable problems. I have since converted over to the final release SP1, and all still seems fine.
Thanks everyone- great feed back, I will go over to sp1 when I get a chance, and post any feedback.
