I have the SW2010 64 bit. My computer specs are below. Any tips on on how to get the maxium fast performance on Solidworks. I currently have a lag when I am clicking functions in solidworks. For example, editing dimension requires solidworks to think awfully long (45-60 secs)

That is not good. Let us try and fix this.
What video card are you using? Where did you get the driver? Which driver version is it?
What kind of hard drive? How full is the hard drive? When is the last time you ran defrag on the hard drive?
i am having a similar propblem w/win7 x64 and 2010 sp3.1.
although selections not as slow as 40 sec, but my performance for selection and regeneration has degraded significantly. in fact my wimpy laptop is much faster. it is ridiculously slow. makes me want to use a drafting board.

Is this in a SolidWorks 2D Drawing by any chance. I know if I copy and paste 1000s of lines from SolidWorks 2D CAD Editor into a SolidWorks 2D Drawing, performance goes down when dimensioning or selecting edges.
If you have 1000 of lines in a sketch you can turn on the no solve mode under Tools -> Sketch Tools
nope. it is a 3d model.
Try unplugging the network cable.
Whats the CPU running at? (see task manager).
As mentioned previously, it could be an unclean install.
Does it happen the same for all 3d models? I.e. you notice the same hang when dimensioning in different parts?
You could try going regedit and rename hkey_cu/software/solidworks to solidworksold and restart SW.
i may try the reg key approach but i think many of my settings will get whacked. i hear you on the unclean install.
what i am going to do is i just got a new 10k 300GB velociraptor disk drive on which i will put a clean install of Win 7, then add SW and other software. i will continue to work by booting to my current disk drive. i will have to keep switching boot drives untill i have the new disk drive loaded with all my software and latest updates etc. then i am gonna image it and make it my boot drive, and wipe out my current boot drive and use it for storage. then when this crap happens again, i will re-image my working disk drive. it seems like Winblowz and SlowWorks have a half life, constantly degrading as time goes on OR maybe I am getting faster with age? ya right!

Disable Indexing (Or at least make sure it isn't running when this happens)
Either enable or disable (can't remember which ... but the opposite of what you have) the Windows Alt+ underline function.
45 to 60 seconds is a lot for any command nowadays, I would try the following:
-Running the Maintenance from SolidWorks Rx (Clean all directories).
-Make sure all your files are of the current SW version you're using.
-Updating or reinstalling your GPU Driver.
-Turn off all the Fancy Stuff (graphics) from Windows.
-Reseting your System Settings for SW (you could turn then off for one session thru the SW Rx).
-Reinstalling SW (I've had experience with bad installs before).
