Has anyone had success creating intermittent welds or slot welds using the Edge Weld Connector available in SolidWorks Simulation?

The image below shows a simple model consisting of two plates lying on top of each other. Referring to the image below, 

• I have not been able to add a slot weld in the slot shown at the end of the top plate.
• I have tried to add intermittent welds, such as three 3-inch welds
