So in assemblies you can overwrite part appearances,
Solidworks also has an option when saving a part or assembly as a step file to "export appearances."
The problem I'm running into is that whenever you attempt to do that, it seems to always ignore the assembly overrides and use the part appearance if it has one set. it seems to use the assembly appearance if the original part didn't have one.
