Can you break a pattern in solidworks?  

i want to copy rotate a some parts in a weldment 90 degrees.  after that i want to make a pattern going in a vertical direction.

once i do that i would like to delete the ones i originally rotated 90 degrees because i no longer need them.  when i deleted them the ones i pattern vertically also were deleted, not exactly what i was after.

can it be done? i looked online
