I've been attempting to pull part numbers we use for stock pipe & tube into a BOM automatically, by setting these up in the pipe template and getting each pipe segment to pull this info. I tend to use routing only for individual pipe segments, so will have lots of route subassemblies with a single pipe part in each, and use an indented drawing BOM to show these.

The catch is that I need these
