I must be missing something.  I used to be able to update the hatch on one part and all the parts in the assembly would update in that section view.  I have tried a few settings and when you screw them up the undo button does not help.  We apply material to all the parts now, so could that be what is keeping me from updating multiple parts at one time.  
I even tried the format painter. That does not work
