I have a top level assembly with a couple subassemblies underneath.  The reference planes do not "autosize" over the geometry.  They are much oversized as if there were some objects (that I can't see) floating out in space.

In digging into this assembly, I can get them to autosize properly if I suppress everything but the first subassembly.

This would indicate that the second subassembly is the problem.
