In the real world a belt or even chain driven device can have its pulleys change angle when running or have pulleys running at different angles and let the chain or belt just handle it.  IIRC one of the early Honda cars had belt and pulleys that were 90deg.

I notice that Grad CAD has no full derailleur models with chains. I'm thinking a chain with some built in slop could be modeled and run as Motion
