Last month, we opened the doors to a design challenge to our SOLIDWORKS Champoions, timed with today:

Fibonacci Day!

Why Fibonacci?

From the intricate structure of tiny seashells to the gigantic spirals of the universe's galaxies, the Fibonacci sequence is the basis of nature's design - a unique pattern where each number is the sum of the two preceding ones—1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, etc. The sequence offers a natural balance and harmony that artists, architects and designers have celebrated for centuries.

Also known as Leonardo of Pisa and Leonardo Fibonacci, Leonardo Bonacci invented a counting pattern that continues to influence math and technology today. The pattern consists of numbers that sum the previous two numbers before them—1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13—and so on. The sequence is used in computing, stock trading and architecture and design. -- NationalToday.com

Challenge Details:

We challenged our Champ's to create a 3D design inspired by the Fibonacci sequence in SOLIDWORKS and then render a high-quality 2D image with the help of our 3DEXCITE software. Whether in the form, function, pattern, or proportions, we wanted to see their interpretation of Fibonacci's influence in their submission. Man, oh, man...did they step up and meet the challenge!

Entries:

We ended with 11 entries that were all eye-catching, artistic, and creative submissions.  Here's the list of entries (click each individually to view in detail):

Wow - the Champions that entered their designs really all went above and beyond and provided the jury with a tough time in its deliberations.  However, every contest must have a winner and anyone who entered will receive a certificate signed by 3DEXPERIENCE Works Sr VP @Gian Paolo BASSI, SOLIDWORKS CEO @Manish KUMAR & 3DEXCITE CEO @Tom ACLAND.

In addition to the certificate, the overall design winner will win the following:

🥇And the Fibonacci Design Challenge Winner is...🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁

We congratulate @Nadir Oktay Kucukaltun with his design that brought the Fibonacci sequence into a very special clock!

Participating in this challenge has been such a pleasure! Bringing the magic of the Fibonacci sequence to life in SOLIDWORKS was both inspiring and fun. -- Nadir

Nadir's infusion of design, functionality, Virtual + Real was incredible and made for an outstanding entry that at the end of a long jury discussion, won!💫

🌟Congratulations, Nadir - we look forward to showcasing this at 3DEXPERIENCE World 2025 in Houston!⭐

The other "runner ups" that were at the top:

Thank you again to all the Champions who entered and for the very creative entries!
