I want create a see through perforated metal sheet, but don't want to model all the perforations, because that would make running it horribly slow. Hence, I was trying to use an appearance (applied to either a solid body or a surface), but it displays the transparent parts of the image as back (See attached image). Any ideas?

A workaround would be to use a decal and apply a mask using the image's
